Downtown Los Angeles Drupal Meetup at Sensis Agency and via WebEx on November 20, 2012: Youth and Drupal & Security Best Practices
The next general Downtown Los Angeles Drupal meetup is on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 and will be at Sensis Agency in Downtown Los Angeles. Those interested in attending this meetup remotely are welcome to join us via WebEx.
At this meetup, we're having our usual news and announcements, raffle prizes, lightning talks (which are short, bite-sized presentations) and featured presentations.
Drupal and Youth at Urban Txt
Urban TxT (Urban Teens Exploring Technology) is an organization in Downtown Los Angeles that encourages inner city teen males to become catalysts of change in urban communities.
We'll be hearing from Oscar Menjibar (@menjibar) and youth members at Urban TxT about how they learned about Drupal during a technology summer program and then used Drupal to tell their story!
Drupal Security Best Practices
It's been a while since the Los Angeles area has had a talk on Drupal Security, so we'll be focusing on this important subject at this meetup. Christefano Reyes (@christefano) from Exaltation of Larks (@LarksLA) will present on today's security-related best practices for Drupal. The following topics will be covered:
- Common attacks to protect against
- How the Drupal project's security team works
- A security checklist anyone can use
- My site's been hacked! Now what?
- Available security tools, documentation and training materials
Views
I wished to connect two views. ie . supply the output of one view to the input to the other view.
For eg.
Suppose I have created a vocabulary project members. And I add two terms to the vocabulary male and female. Now i create 5 nodes of story type and tag them as male and female.
Suppose I have entered(Sudeep,Sudarshan as Male and Pallavi,Menka as female)
Now first page of view should show
male
female
then when I click on male it should show
Sudeep (Node Title to be connected to its node)
Sudarshan(Node Title to be connected to its node)
Scheduling Support Hours in #DrupalDojo IRC
Until such time as we have a better solution for managing support hours in the #drupal-dojo IRC, we thought we would simply start a wiki page where Volunteers could post 'Office Hours' for specific types of Drupal support.
If you are willing to try your hand a mentoring or supporting others having difficulties in particular areas please sign up here. We'll do our best to create events and to promote that you are available during those hours in the Drupal-Dojo IRC.
Ideally we would eventually work toward having a regular support schedule, but we will work up to that.
Read moreCan this idea for a non-profit, world-spanning project to connect volunteers be done with Drupal?
The project is the creation of a website dedicated to building a worldwide network of people who really want to do something to make a difference in the world helping in whatever way they can. This members in the network would be volunteer. And with the age of the internet truly upon us, with Twitter, iPhones, cheap mobile phone internet access etc etc blossoming all around us, there is no better time.

I would happy to listen your voice/thought here about this idea.

youth events at DrupalCamp LA
DrupalCamp LA is coming up on August 7-8 and I'm wondering if anyone here is interested in youth events during the conference. For example, if there's enough interest I can help organize a youth afterparty.
What kind of for youth, by youth things can we do at DrupalCamp LA? What has worked well at other conferences? I'd love to hear from you.
