Christefano has asked me to post here, about a blog post I wrote How to Avoid the Drupal Flu.
Essentially, it's no surprise that so many people get ill after a big conference like Drupalcon, but there are easy ways we can prevent it. My blog post discusses this in more detail, but for quick viewing here are the key points to help you stay Drupal Fit:
Before you travel:
- Clean you computer and other devices. They harbour so many germs, you really don't want to know.
- Buy some hand sanitiser.
- Buy some multivitamins with iron.
- Buy some anti-bacterial wipes.
- Learn to wash your hands properly. We all think we know how to wash our hands, but most of us don't. Really.
At the conference:
- Wash your hands regularly, especially after lots of handshaking (Some people even wish we could avoid shaking hands), or handling money — and always before eating.
- Don't touch your face, especially your eyes, nose or mouth. When we're tired we tend to do this more often, as our eyes either water, or get dry, and we rub them — yet it's the primary way for a virus to enter the body.
- Give your laptop and other devices a regular wipe with an antibacterial wipe.
- Be considerate of others: Cough or sneeze into tissues and then throw them away, and don't even come to the conference if you're already ill.
- Eat well - lots of fresh vegetables and salad. Top up with a daily vitamin tablet to boost your vitamin C and Iron.
- Take a power nap for 20 minutes in the middle of the day if you can to recharge your batteries.
