This is just an idea.
We've built sites on Mambo/Joomla in the past. mosforms, an extension to build and output custom forms and store the input much like CCK works for Drupal, was yet a simple, but great component to design site contact and other forms for Joomla. mosforms has evolved and is available as Fabrik - Joomla Application Builder now. There is nothing that might compete with our CCK here, but the last line of the published roadmap for Fabrik sounds quite interesting to me:
Hosted fabrik web app service.
Just think of your next project. Install profiles coming with Drupal 5 might give you the basics. But as with every other project you already know that there will be custom parts you can not create from an install profile template. This is where CCK content type templates come in. A public, open and freely available repository of templates for CCK content types.
merlinofchaos already did a great job of exporting and importing data templates for Views. If that is possible for Views, we might be able to fork it for CCK content types.
But this particular roadmap announcement claims to be even more. Think of a online repository of CCK templates which you can aggregate to your site. Update the (categorized) list, click on "import" and start your work based on that CCK template immediately. - Made a new content type? Click on "export" and make it available to the community.
As mentioned before, this is just an unleashed idea, a draft someone might take up to actually do something.

import/export already exists
Recent CCK versions already include the ability to import/export content types, fields, etc.
More evidence that KarenS and yched can code up new goodies faster than most of us can read about them :-) Keep up the good work.
I love the idea. As
I love the idea. As mentioned, CCK can already be exported/imported - which is great - we could get started sharing right away :-D
This would be a great learning resource for CCK newbies such as myself to be able to look at how other people's content types are configured, and of course a time-saver for everyone.
Where and how should the shared content types be hosted? Ideally I'd say directly on Drupal.org in a dedicated area... if that initially isn't possible I'd be happy to set up space on my server for it, or I'm sure others could do the same (I can't really setup the site for it myself, but will gladly provide resources). Or maybe initially they could be collected in a dedicated Drupal.org group. Ultimately it would be great to have an easy-to-use searchable/categorized repository.
Thanks for the great idea - hopefully it will catch on. I would say start a group right away and people might begin adding their CCK types and get the ball rolling.
Perfect for Drupal Dojo learning and workshopping
I'm very excited to see some ramped up discussion and interest in this sort of 'content repository'. It's somewhat related to a previous discussion about Structured blogging, microformats, and CCK.
Being that the Drupal Dojo has already incorporated CCK into a lesson and is ready for more, I think we can make a valuable contribution to this effort. Any guidance the experts can provide should go a very long way.

Excellent idea.
I think it's great idea.
Being the drupal newbie, examples to sift through would be very valuable.
And of course the ninja's out there can think of new ideas leveraged on this one...that alone is worthwhile.

Sounds promising. Obviously,
Sounds promising. Obviously, once CCK goes into core the word will be out as more people will feel the need for cusstom content types. This is the path I see for something like this.

Okay!
Instead of making drupalcontenttypes.com, I added it to the handbook: Shared Content Type Repository
