major pathauto update

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Well folks, I've just done a few changes to pathauto.

The first thing was to create a Pathauto 5.x-1.1 which is likely the last in this line. It should be relatively stable and feature complete with the 4.7 version (or a little better).

The second was to create a new development branch for 5.x-2.x which is where I committed 10 patches that had been sitting in the queue. There may be some "fallout" from all these changes, but I think it's generally headed in the right direction.

I do request that those of you interested in pathauto will test out the new version to help make sure that it's good.

The major goal of the 5.x--2 version is to look for new features to implement and get rid of functionality that I don't want to maintain such as the listing page/index alias functionality. The biggest part of the work I hope to get done is twofold: 1) use token module for all the patterns and 2) using something like selenium to implement the test plan for pathauto that I've been writing (note - please help edit that!).

So, that's about it. I'm still looking for some people to help maintain the module. In particular 4.7 gets relatively little maintenance so someone could step in to take care of that branch.

Finally, thanks to ahoeben, add1sun. csevb10, gerd riesselmann, Claudiu Cristea, and umonkey for their help in finding/fixing bugs!

MAIN?

Will you be porting the stabilized changes to DRUPAL-5? If this is a developement branch, why not use MAIN?

well...

I want to leave the DRUPAL-5 branch for the "stable 4.7-feature-complete 5.x port of the module" and all new functionality will stay in 5--2 only.

If you read http://drupal.org/node/17570 then you can see that the recommended place for new features is in 5--2 branches. There was lots of discussion about this on the devel list a while ago and I encourage you to read it.

If you have any ideas on how this should best be handled I'd love to hear it.
