DrupalCamp Florida 2010 Hotel?

ultimike's picture

I've been in contact with a number of people around the state regarding DrupalCamp Florida and I've had several people ask me about hotels near the event.

Perhaps someone local to the Orlando/Altamonte Springs area (whose name isn't Andrew) can step up and find a hotel near MindComet's offices and see if we can work out some sort of group rate? This would be valuable information that we can put on the web site and it might entice more people to attend and stay for both days.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Thanks,
-mike

Any estimates as to how many we'll need? That will help with the discussions.

Don,

Great - thanks! Do you know the area well?

Off the top of my head, I'd guess maybe 20-25 rooms total?

What does everybody else think? How many of you from far, far away will be looking for a hotel room for DrupalCamp Florida?

I live right in Longwood so it's not an issue at all. I'll try to find out who the local hotel management group is and see if we can get a couple of options so people can choose based on price.

My mom works directly with every major hotel chain / concierge in town. I can have her make a few calls to see which hotels would be interested. How may people overall are we looking at again that would be attending?

150

We're capping attendance at 150 for the camp.

Marc, Don - congrats - you're officially our hotel committee.

The web site is in progress. We might need some help getting it done - join us on the conference call tonight for details: http://groups.drupal.org/node/32652

Hotel Info So far

Here are the two hotel rates I can get so far. Let me know what you think. I will have them reserve them under the Florida Drupal Camp rate. There are no minimums or room blocks we have to fill at either hotel. Just have people call them to make the reservation.

$119 per night
Embassy Suites Orlando North
225 Shorecrest Drive Altamonte Springs, FL 32701

$89 per night
Hilton Orlando/Altamonte Springs

Mark,

Any idea which one is closer to MindComet?

They're equidistant from

They're equidistant from Mindcomet (5-10 minutes) and there's not much that is closer. There's a Hampton Inn that's just a little closer but I'm not sure the rate would be much better.

Excellent

Sounds good - I say we go with the cheaper one and start getting the word out about it - the more people that stay in a single location, the better.

Does either one of them have a bar/restaurant? Maybe we should pick one based on that fact so we have a place to hang out Saturday night...

What do you guys think?

Embassy Suites has their

Embassy Suites has their standard courtyard area and the Hilton has a regular hotel restaurant.

My recommendation would be one of the restaurants around the mall. There are plenty of them around there that may be able to set aside a section.

Hotels Updates

Here is what I can get:

Courtyard Marriott Downtown
$99 a night with free parking.
This is downtown but is a great rate.

Embassy Suites Altomonte
$119 Per night

The hotel is about the same distance as the Hilton below....4.5 miles.

Hilton Orlando / Altomonte Springs
$89 Per night
From what I have seen this is a really good rate. The hotel is about 4.5 miles from Mindcomet and is near the mall and a lot of restaurants.

I do believe I can just have all three accept reservations without needing a minimum, so we could choose one or post all three.

I say that if we don't have to meet a minimum, then why not post all three options for our attendees. This way they get to choose.

Downtown aint bad

I'm from the area also (Cocoa Beach) and I'd recommend the Embassy Suites downtown. Plenty of stuff in walking distance to see, nightlife is great, etc etc. IIRC Embassy has a managers reception every night (free beer and snacks) and breakfast cooked to order every morning. I won't be staying there but its usually the hotel I prefer when traveling
