Is there any advertising module currently working for 5.x?

mal-gdo's picture

If not I assume that everyone in this forum either is not running 5.x, or is not advertising on their sites. I doubt that either assumption is true, so can someone please tell me the secret?

How do I accomplish advertising on a 5.x site.

I saw that the calssifieds module is ported. But I don't need classifieds. I need text, banner and button ads.

The ad module was recently ported to Drupal 5 by Morbus Iff. I've not had time to roll a beta release of that branch, but I've been told that the Drupal 5 development branch is now functionally in sync with the Drupal 4.7 branch. Thus, the only missing feature preventing a 1.0 release of the ad module is notifications.

It may be worth downloading and giving it a try, though the code is still in beta.

Jeremy;

Thanks for your response. I can't seem to find a live download link for 5.x.

Can you kindly point it out to me?
Thx

At this time you need to download the 5.x-1.x-dev development snapshot. It's linked from the ad project page, as well as from here.

I hate to appear dense about this...

I visited that page earlier, but I'm not detecting a clickable (download) link on that page.

Hmmm...it works for me

Both links provided above work for me.

Try again. Go to http://drupal.org/project/ad (the first link provided above) and, for 5.x-1.x-dev under "Development snapshots", roll your mouse over the "Download" word in the "Links" column. You should be able to click on "Download" and have it open a pop-up dialogue box asking you what you'd like to do (open file or download to disk).

For http://drupal.org/node/122279 (the second link), roll your mouse over ad-5.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz. You should be able to click it and have it open a pop-up dialogue box asking you what you'd like to do (open file or download to disk).

Everyone is different, but I normally choose to download the file to my hard drive where I then de-compress it (it's a tar ball). I then go through the read-me file (if provided) and then upload it to my server. Good luck!

I puzzled over this for days (weeks?). Couldn't find a link on the page. Turned out it was my firewall....filtering out the link.

Thx for all your help.

Version 1.0 of the ad module was released today, finally moving the project out of beta status. The module has been released with an identical feature set for both Drupal 4.7.x and Drupal 5.x.

OpenAds for 5.1 exists

cookiesunshinex - Tue, 2007-03-27 20:04

There is a module called OpenAds that provides OpenAds 2.3 (Media Max Manager) Support for Drupal 5.1x.

Unfortunately, most of the OpenAds (previously called PhpAdsNew) install base is 2.011. It's a commonly used and well proven package. OpenAds 2.3 is an extension of OpenAds 2.011 that is not quite ready for your average admin to install that easily.

I tried to configure the OpenAds Drupal module with 2.011 and found out the hard way that it didn't work correctly.

There quite a few

There quite a few advertising modules available for Drupal 5.x now:
