I think we could probably

liberatr's picture

I think we could probably spend an entire session talking about the myriad products that have come out in the last few months, plus whatever is released between now and then. Depending on the timing, there may be a few that are still penumbrant in February.

  • OpenAtrium
  • Tattler
  • ManagingNews
  • OpenPublish
  • Drupal Gardens?
  • Buzzr?
  • Acquia Drupal
  • Pressflow
  • Pantheon
  • etc.

split it

Ryan,

I was thinking the same thing, but I think it might be best to split it into 2 presentations - one more focused on ready-to-go products and the other for developers. Here's how I would break up your list:

Products: Open Atrium, Managing News, Acquia Drupal, Tattler

Developers: OpenPublish, DrupalGardens, Pressflow, Pantheon

I was actually thinking about volunteering to do the "products" one - do you want to do the "developers" one?

Yeah, I can do my best.

Yeah, I can do my best. Hopefully by then I'll have had a few more discussions with the folks from Advantage Labs (Allie Micka) about their publicly available repository and how they run their partners program. Could also turn into an SVN Best Practices session...?

Intro to CCK / Views

marcomatic's picture

I can handle the basic introduction to CCK and Views for beginners. This could be either one or two slots.

What is CCK?
- How to create content types.
- Additional cck modules.
- Formatting output.

What is Views?
- Creating a basic page view. (blog listing)
- Creating a blog view.
- Arguments.

More to come but this is the general idea

Advanced Track?

wheelus's picture

One of the guys who works with me at HarmonyLogic would like to do a presentation on "Porting existing php applications to Drupal" This would more likely belong in the Advanced track.

Who is scheduling these?

I believe DamienMcKenna is

I believe DamienMcKenna is handling the schedule and the tracks. I think it would probably be helpful, in the next conference/meetup, to specifically outline what the three tracks will be, and how we are going to break up the time slots. This way, everyone can get better understanding about how much time they will have to cover their proposed topics.

Just a thought

Session Proposals

Damien,

As promised, below are some potential sessions I was thinking might be cool that I'd be willing to present on.

As I was coming up with these, I was struggling to decide if they were beginner- or intermediate-type sessions. I'm still a bit torn on some of them, but I figured I'd post them all here anyway and let you decide.

  1. Demonstrating Four Drupal Products: Open Atrium, Managing News, Acquia Drupal, Tattler - in the past year, these 4 Drupal "products" have been released to great fanfare. I'll provide a run-through of each one and talk about the future of Drupal products. (Beginner?)

  2. That's Built with Drupal?! - there are many sites that people use every day that have been built with Drupal. I'll give a rundown of some of them along with discussion some of the modules and methods used to put them together. (Beginner?)

  3. Image Workflows - there are more than a few ways to set up image handling for content administrators in Drupal. I'll present several workflows that have been proven successful for dealing with managing the sizing and placement of images within content. (Intermediate?)

  4. Using Node Reference Field Effectively - the node reference field is one of CCK's most underrated features. I'll talk about how to map your existing information architecture using the node reference field and then demonstrate several implementation techniques including on-the-fly node creation and views integration. (Intermediate? Advanced?)

  5. Importing Data - I'll show an end-to-end example of importing content into Drupal using the Table Wizard and Migrate modules. (Intermediate? Advanced?)

Those are the ones on my short list. Hopefully, you won't need me to present all 5 of them! Let me know if we need to fill any holes in any of the tracks.

Thanks,
-mike
