This Sunday at 11am PDT / 2pm EDT / 8pm CET, Drupal Dojo regular Sam Tressler will take the teacher's position and walk through creating custom CCK fields. This is a replay of last week's lesson, which turned out to be an impromptu group collaboration on setting up a localhost sandbox. ;)

CCK, is the future and all, but how do we make fields do what we want them to? I mean, its no good to have an input field without validation and formatting options, is it? How does this stuff 'magically' show up in views?

Never fear, its all there, and we can go through it all step by step.

Check out the lesson plan wiki page, and join us on Sunday in the dojo!

The Drupal Dojo is a community group dedicated to spreading best-practices and helping developers who are new to the system get up to speed and become masters in their own right. We hold virtual lessons and produce practical developer documentation in both written and screencast form. If you're a newcomer looking for help in grokking the system or an old hand who's tired of being told to clone yourself, consider joining us in the Dojo!

Screencast

anantagati's picture

Screencast part I (till coffee break) is http://www.blip.tv/file/207510/
Screencast Part II is on http://www.blip.tv/file/207530/
It seems that there is some problem with codec which I used. For me is not playing in browser. If you download .avi file and have TechSmith Screen Capture Codec (TSCC) installed it is ok.

If somebody will give me good tip for which codec and setting I can use, I will try to send it again.

Re-encode please!

Curses, I can't get it to work either. There are a couple good posts from mpare and morphir on codecs:

Uploaded screencast

I uploaded re-encoded video in mp4 format (http://groups.drupal.org/node/2424).

You can find it here: http://www.blip.tv/file/208720/

Update

anantagati's picture

I found that it is still uploading. Now is 51%. So don't download from blip.tv yet.

Sorry.

Great!

Thanks for taking the trouble to transcode. I know this is annoying and time-consuming. Much appreciated!

Finally it is ready.

I am sorry to all of you for previous confusion. I had quite problems with uploading because here is very slow upload speed (average is 22kB/s).

Now hopefully (part 1 - till coffee break) is completely uploaded on blip.tv.

Link to screencast is: http://www.blip.tv/file/209114/

For sure there is also same file here: http://www.librarydb.net/drupaldojo13/drupal-dojo-lesson-13-custom-cck-f...

I have re-encoded also part 2 (after coffee break till end) I will upload it also.

I'm not able to play either Part 1 or Part 2

Am I the only one having this problem?

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Nope

Not even one of the links works, maybe a dojo on how to upload videos is needed?

Ok, I think I know what the problem is...

Ok, so http://www.blip.tv/file/207510/ and http://www.blip.tv/file/207530/ have been removed from blip tv. http://www.blip.tv/file/209114/, http://blip.tv/file/209613, and http://www.librarydb.net/drupaldojo13/drupal-dojo-lesson-13-custom-cck-f... are valid links. I made a comment about this the other day in IRC. We need to encode videos with fast streaming or some sort of streaming header. While the blip page loads you are faced with the quicktime logo and the page appears to be doing nothing, but in all actuallity the entire movie is having to download and then play, so 70mb - 100mb download before you see the video on blip. Solution? Just encode with headers or if video is not encoded with headers right click on following links and click download. This should solve any problems you have. But in the future we do need to try to encode with streaming headers when possible.

Here are the two valid links to parts 1 & 2 of Lesson #13. Just right click and select save link as. Now you can save them to your hd. Enjoy!

http://blip.tv/file/get/Anantagati-drupaldojolesson13customcckfieldspartII625.mov

UPDATE: While these two links are valid there does appear to be something wrong either with the mpeg4 codec used or an issue with encapsulation. If someone can post the source, regardless of size, I would be more than happy to encode and post.

Use the following links instead. These are both confirmed to work. I will merge these two files and repost on blip within the next few days. Sorry for all the changes to this comment.

If you are still having trouble and can post the source files somewhere or upload them to me I would be more than happy to convert and post.

Or at least try...
