hi!

I dont know what to do with the openpublish-1.6.0-357 file. I upload into the FTP, but I can´t run it...

How can I install it?

I´ve noticed that I can proceed to the instalation by ssh (I have a centos, with plesk dedicated server). I dont know to use ssh...

Is any way to install by FTP (ex: Filezilla)?

Best regards,

Martino

Martino, if you are using

Martino,

if you are using FTP, you should first unpack the archive file (zip) and then upload the folder structure that it creates to the document root of your host. The unarchived zip will create "openpublish" folder on your disk, upload its contents to the root web folder of your hosting provider. Do make sure that the FTP program you use does not miss .htaccess file under "openpublish". It is required by Drupal/OpenPublish.

Once all files are uploaded you can continue installation from Web browser. You will need to know database credentials. You should be able to get it from your hosting provider.

I Continue To Have Installation´s Problems...

Joao_Torres's picture

First of all, thanks for the efective and fast reply!

The Drupar needs to be installed before the installation of OpenPublish?

I continue to have problems in installing OpenPublish...

I´ve unpack the ZIP, upload the file via Filezilla, but there´s only 1 file without any extension: openpublish-1.6.0-357.

Normally, when I have to install a software in a webserver, I have allways a folder with a lot of files (php, html, images, etc). But in the case of OpenPublish, there´s only 1 file without an extension...

After this step, I really dont know what to do with this file without any extension...

is that a file or folder?

If that is a file, please let us know the extension.

Aside:

With my experience with installing Drupal many times, I had hard time installing the OP 1.6. :(

Firstly, it didn't proceed before I removed opencalis and filefield folder from the modules directory
Then when the installation started, I moved those two folders to /sites/all/modules (b/c without them, installation won't run)
It installed everything well, except it could not configure "link" or something like that at the end.

Overall, the design should get credit but its very very different from the previous version. I will have to explore more and (will have to reinstall it to be able to record the errors again) only then I can report those errors.

THANKS to the developers for their effort to bring the OP 1.6.
One thing I was not happy with: The Article node type was not there by default. But that is not difficult to create either for experienced Druplers.

Please use this.

Please use the Drupal Installation guide. There is nothing different in OpenPublish, it is just an package of Drupal with modules, no additional installation steps to get started.

I Continue To Have Problems...

Joao_Torres's picture

Hi Febbraro and Stattalk!

I´d installed in the past Drupal in others webservers.

Now I want to install OpenPublishin a new server, but it seems that is diferent than Drupal, because with Drupal I had a folder with all the files (images, phps, htmls, modules, etc) that I'd uploaded by FTP and automatically I´d started the installation.

But in this case, I´ve downloaded the OpenPublish (in this website http://www.opensourceopenminds.com/openpublish) and the ZIP file have only 1 folder with 1 file: openpublish-1.6.0-357

Is it possible to download the installation folder with all the files unpacked?

For a person like me, that dont understands ssh, it will be great to have the instalation pack with all the files (instead having a folder with only 1 file, without extensions), for uploading the installation folder directly to FTP.

Best regards,

Martino

Download again

stattler's picture

I've downloaded the .tgz version and was able to install on my VPS.

Now I've just downloaded the .zip version and extracted it on my local PC and found that it has indeed all the components needed to install on the server. I am not sure why you are not seeing those folders inside the openpublish folder when you extract it. Make sure that you are not using IE (as IE sometimes corrupts the zip files when downloading).

Try to download it from http://www.opensourceopenminds.com/openpublish/download

Additionally, if your server allows you to extract .zip file, then you could upload that .zip file and then extract on your server. The installation should follow from there. I am not an expert but I will try to follow this thread as far as possible. :)

I am trying to install

I am trying to install openpublish in a subfolder. Does it need to be installed in the root folder?

Marine job board with Drupal 7 at http://windwardjobs.com

I would avoide doing that

If you have freedom to install it in root, that would be hassle free. Sometime installing drupal within a standard drupal or under a subfolder causes problem.

Finally I Have All The Files!!!

Joao_Torres's picture

Stattalk, your theory was right! It seems that when I was downloading the ZIP (with IE), the folder didn´t had the files (only one file, very strange!).

But now with Firefox, like a miracle, the ZIP haves all the files!!! I never had experienced something like this, very strange....

Well, thanks Stattalk!

Best regards,

Martino

Glad!

Glad that it helped. So, please don't forget to share your experience with OP 1.6. I am learning and learning.. so I would like to know everyone else's story with OP.

Joao_Torres,

thanks for sharing the solution. Glad it worked out. We've heard about some problems when downloading with IE but this one is a new take on the long list of problems related to the Internet Explorer. Sigh.

We will try to see if there's anything on the server-side that we can do to help this.

Thanks.
