COD (Conference Organizing Distro) is really bland and lame. I think this project deserves a more interesting identity. We've brainstormed a bit at Chapter Three but haven't come up with a winner yet.
Here are a couple ideas so far:
- Campcon - as in Camp + Conference... pretty 'bleh' but does get stuck in your head.
- Captured Connections - read the product vision
Any ideas?

Shortname vs. distro/product name
Install profiles need distro_name_FUNCTION. So "cod" might not be so bad. Maybe a fish on a calendar :P? What's the universal symbol for a conference / event?
Hmm...you mention "agorae". What about Agora? Yeah, I like that...Agora: an online gathering place to organize your conference.
'Agora' -- duh
That's a good idea :) Top of my list....
However ....
Looks like someone got to Agora first for an online meeting tool.
Some other name suggestions (about which you are fully allowed to rip the piss):
Ah well, I tried ...
Throwing it in the air as per...
Some suggestions for thought...
Confab, huddle, interchange, groupthink, powwow.
Best I can do on a Sunday morning.

more rubbish
Converge, convergence...? If you want to go "all Bay Area" about the matter - Convergr (!)
RoundTable? Urrrrrrrm...

Hrmmm
Convergr...I like it. True it's trendy, but it would also be something that people remember, and it's a play off of a real word, so I doubt it's taken. I do like that it implies that it is something that converges other things. That makes it a verb. An action verb. Action verbs can make very good product names.
Oh wait...better check, does someone have a patent on removing vowels from the end of words (primarily 'e')?
Seriously though, +1 convergr for me.

conferencing
sorry, to be so late to the party, but as a not developer but frequent conference organizer (who will be trying this out soon), I'd prefer a very descriptive name that can be explained to co-workers something like 'conferencing' less so but why not: 'confer', 'confertastic', 'conferly', 'conferlicious', even the above mentioned 'confab'. But COD isn't a bad name. Or 'condruit' for 'confer and drupal it'.

Corroboree/confluence
Corroboree
corroboree |kəˌrɒbəri|
noun
an Australian Aboriginal dance ceremony that may take the form of a sacred ritual or an informal gathering.
• chiefly Austral. a party or other social gathering, esp. a lively one.
ORIGIN from Dharuk garaabara, denoting a style of dancing.
or Korroboree (just to be different) or Korrobori (to be annoying;)
How about "confluence"
Agora sounds good too - but also means a marketplace...
I like ConFab Or how about
I like ConFab
Or how about Con-Fu (or Con-Foo for the geeks amongst us..oh wait, that's nearly everyone)
Names....
As a frustrated user:
Can'tconnectfrence, WhitePageofDeathfrence, HowManyTimesDoINeedToInstallItfrence, HowDoIloginAfterChangingAllphpMemSettingsAsInstructedandStillNothingfrence.
What a guy who could get it to work would name it:
Colosseum (as it pertains to a big meeting place), DRUPALGANISER, DRUPALFRENCE, OhMyGodthisThingSavedMyLife (but I can't get it to work.), ORGMORPHEUS, ORGANAMORPHEUS, CONFERENCE LINK, CONFERENCE CONTROL.

Note: I can get a standard install of Drupal to work successfully (MAMP on a G4 MD Dual 1.25 1.5g). After I discovered the COD package I uninstalled, precongifured as directed, (except for the "pearwiki_filter" as there are no instructions for a mac.) and went through the motions. Several times (to say the least), for the past 2 days). I would hate to think that the "pearwiki_filter" is my nemesis on this but I don't see how it should be a factor.
Please, can someone tell me why I immediately after submitting the db name u/p (as set up in MySql) it tells me that everything is fine and I may proceed to the Main Page or Admin page. NOTE: "It never asks me to create a master user". If I click on either of the links it leads me to a blank page then I try a refresh and get the Drupal already installed, then a page saying access denied, then I do the edit update to "False" and then the mem settings in all related files as directed, does it's thing, then blank page time again. Sorry to post here but you seem to be the man behind the curtain. If I am missing some special info regarding the "pearwiki_filter" and the Mac OS please post them somewhere.
Thank you so much in advance for your help and or direction to some help.

gets stuck, for sure...
CampCon? Is that a new Kotex product?
I agree with COD being lame, esp. since it already has a crap ton of well heeled examples (collect on delivery, cause of death, call of duty, certificate of deposit, etc).
How about CampSpace?
