This is the working wiki page for details and tips for using the DrupalCamp Distribution ("distro") spearheaded by the Los Angeles Drupal User Group (for DrupalCampLA 2009), and has been adopted by other regional groups (like San Diego; SANDcamp) for running their own camp sites without building a site from scratch each event or year.
Installation notes
IN PROGRESS - Download the camp site codebase (ZIP), and create a database. (really need more details here, please)
Hosting
You can host the camp distro anywhere that supports Drupal (PHP/MySQL/Apache). Acquia.com offers free Drupal hosting to non-profit Drupal events and groups, like camp sites.
Building up / Extending
Of course, since the camp distro is all Drupal, adding new features is just the same as adding a new module/feature to your current Drupal sites.
Theme
The camp distro comes with a Zen-based sub-theme with simple graphics. You can add your own theme, from scratch, or a sub-theme on top of what's provided. San Diego mentioned it took a few volunteers around 40-160 hours to really tweak the site theme for a custom look.
Features list
- Use of CCK, Views, and a few other very popular (and usseful) modules.
- Post sessions. Comment on sessions. Vote on sessions.
- Calendar-esque schedule of approved sessions.
- Sponsor listing page. Sponsor node types. Large sponsor ad blocks.
- Camp Forums.
- Camp news/blog.
- RSS feed.
