Add a Skype connection?
For those who might want to join but aren't in FBKs, is it possible to set up a Skype conference, or a GoToMeeting or something so that others may join?
virtual meeting
Yes I'm sure we can figure something out so that people outside Fairbanks can join in.
I will post the solution closer to the meeting.
Thanks!
Virtual Meeting
If this is something you are interested in doing please let me know. However this first meeting we are just going to do a bit of brainstorming about when to meet and what to talk about, who we might like to give a talk etc. So just let me know when the best times are for you and if there are any subjects you'd like to focus on in future meetings. We will brainstorm where a better location to meet might be so that we can include Alaskan's who are outside Fairbanks.
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
Sorry
Hi Jeannine,
Sorry I missed your message in time to respond, but glad they group had a good first meeting. I'll keep an eye on this thread and will contribute where I can.
Thanks,
James
Our First Meeting
Our first meeting was a success in that there were more than two people. We had five people all at different stages in their Drupal experience. We brainstormed ideas and settled on our next meeting being the first Thursday in March. Topics to be covered at that meeting will include basic installation, standard modules that we find handy, and basic theming. Possibly multi-site installations as well but that might get left for another time.
If anyone is wanting to call into that meeting just let me know. If anyone has other topics the would like to discuss post them here.
Also a discussion of moving the meeting to the pub since all in attendance are over 21 but still looking into that.
Count me in next time
Shoot! I'm bummed I missed the first meeting, but count me in for the one in March.
Cool
Good to see some activity in the alaska drupal community. Did the March event happen and any talk of an Anchorage event?

March meeting
The March meeting was on the 4th. We had a demonstration of making a fresh install of Drupal on Linux, complete with modules and themes. We also had a demo showing creation of a calendar with a CCK assisted new content type and Views. There were a few snafus, but I thought it went well. Disclosure: I did all the demos 8-)
Hopefully someone can step up to the plate for our April meeting (tentatively scheduled for April 8) with some good demos or lead a discussion. I'd be most interested in learning more about themes, theming and some of the more useful API hooks for page content/layout, especially with CCK. Other suggestions are certainly welcome, especially if you can the presentation!
Me? I'll have to learn something new before I can do another show-n-tell unless people want to see a better way to use the Calender module than I showed last time. I did a fair bit with Calendar over the weekend -- we didn't even BEGIN to scratch the surface of Calendar in the March meeting nevermind I took entirely the wrong approach to begin with!
AFAIK, we're not set up for a road show. If someone wants to set up a webcast or conference, I'm game, but don't have time or experience in that arena. We have good networking on campus, so bandwidth isn't a problem on our end.
