April Meeting

For the April meeting we will discuss the aftermath of DrupalCon. and I will be presenting on Rules.

We decided at the beginning of March that we would rotate who chairs the meetings. I chaired the meeting at the end of March. If any one wants to volunteer to chair the April meeting please reply and let us know.

Chairing April Meeting

I will volunteer to do so, if no one else has already stepped forward (across the line in the sand), and looking forward to your presentation on Rules. Also, on the agenda, would be my investigation into the use of the Drupalcamp "profile" as the basis for developing a site for Boise Code Camp.

April 28th Meeting Report

ClintBseID's picture

Clint Tinsley had volunteered as the facilitator and opened the meeting at 6:30 PM. We had 12 members in attendance along with a few younger future Drupalists, ages 1 and up...

After a round of introductions of those present we discussed the following under announcements:

Reminder that the Colorado Drupal Camp is coming up on June 26-27, 2010, a Mini-Drupalcon. Their website is not up yet at http://drupalcampcolorado.org/ but you can follow them on Twitter @drupalcolorado and more information is available at http://groups.drupal.org/node/59103.
Other upcoming Drupalcamps: Pacific Northwest Drupalcamp wll be in October, Vancover, BC. DrupalCampLA is in. August

Joshua reminded that Drupal is hiring for Boston positions and to contact him if interested.

Clint then opened the topic of Portland Code Camp participation in have a Drupal Track similar to the one done at Boise Code Camp. It was determined that most of the presenters at the Boise Event had commitments and could not participate in the Portland Code Camp although Joshua mentioned that Portland is a one day event and air fares are cheap enough to fly in the morning and flyout Saturday night. Clint will contact the Portland Drupal Group and see if there is any interest there.

BCC Code Camp Website Project was then discussed. Clint had spent sometime working with the DrupalCampLA install profile using the "released" install and had determined that the install profile was pretty gutted and many of the functions were broken, directories missing. He did have a "dev" site up and running on a server at his which was showed at the meeting. Clint also mentioned other sites which he would like to get copies of and Joshua said he had some connections that he could use in getting us copies. We then discussed the development needs including the BCC Organizers requirements for the website and time estimates to build a working website being possible 120 hours or more. Target would be to have a "working" website by September. Joshua mentioned that he is working on getting information from BCC in getting free hosting approved on Acquia.

Moving on to DrupalCon Reports, James attended and mentioned that videos are available for downloading from sites such as www.archive.com and searching on Drupal Con.

Our presentation for the evening was by James Glascow on Rules. He took the group through the first 3 tutorials found at http://drupal.org/node/298482 (Tutorials / Getting started...). Eric also contributed to the presentation in that he uses Rules for about 90% of his websites in implementing workflow. Some discussion followed involving using Drupal modules schedule and scheduler and how well they played with the rules module. The presentation was informative and warmly received. Thanks to James and Antonio is making a projector and screen available for the evening's demo.

The meeting concluded with a raffle consisting of a Drupalcon 2010 T-Shirt, a PACKT book on Drupal 6 Content Management, A Drupal PlayingCard Game, and a couple of Drupal Computer decals.

Note: We will need a volunteer to facilitate "host" the May Meeting which gives everyone a opportunity to lead the meeting during the year. Any volunteers?

Hey Clint, thanks for the

Hey Clint, thanks for the great write-up, cheers!

Hey, I was talking with the Drupalcamp CO people the other day, and they're working heavily on a module that wraps a bunch of camp features. There's not an official release yet, but Ezra (the maintainer) says that it still works pretty well. You might want to check it out, if you're exploring options for Boise Code Camp:

http://drupal.org/project/cod_support

It sounds like they're hoping to have a release out before too long.
