ben_c's picture
ben_c - Mon, 2007-08-27 13:15

To Jan and everyone else who wish to attend. Thank you for signifying interest in the Meet Up at Ortigas. Here are the tentative Skeds. Please indicate all your available dates, so we can finalize.

  1. Mon, Sep 3, 3-5 pm.
  2. Mon, Sep 3, 4-6- pm.
  3. Tue, Sep 4, 3-5 pm.
  4. Tue, Sep 4, 4-6 pm.

Our Sponsor for this meet up: DIG IT ALL SOLUTIONS INC will be providing the resource persons for the sessions.

[To mrncaballero -- usap tayo next time para sa mga sponsors you are eyeing :) ]

Venue:

Right now, we are expecting not more than 10 participants, so we are thinking of going to Gloria Jeans in Megamall, or any cafe at Robinsons (to take advantage of free Wifi). If we're too many, we may change the venue to the DIG IT ALL SOLUTIONS office in Ortigas at San Miguel Ave.

TOPICS:

Our first meet up will focus on the power of Drupal (not necessarily in this order).

  1. Installing and Configuring Drupal

    • Creating a quick website: stories, pages, forums, menus
    • Dealing with images
    • Users and roles
  2. The Power of Drupal Categories

    • How to configure and use categories
    • Multi-tagging
    • Taxonomy, from a knowledge management perspective
  3. Instant Web Databases, using the cck/Views module

    • Configuring cck + Views
    • Where to use cck + Views

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Those who wish to follow the step by step demos, please bring laptops, preferrably with WiFi. The laptop should have AMP pre-installed (Apache, MySQL, PHP) and Drupal!

  2. Those who wish to understand cck/Views module, please preinstall cck + Views modules.

  3. Those who wish to follow the Categories demo, just have Drupal installed -- Categories module is built in.

Other details:

  • FREE - GRATIS - LIBRE -- invite your techie friends or IT staff
  • Pay only for coffee or pastries in the cafe we will be invading
  • Resource persons will be the top engineers and consultants of DIG IT ALL SOLUTIONS INC, who have done various Drupal projects for NGOs and corporations.
  • Invite techie friends, NGOs, non-profit orgs who may need to use the Power of Drupal for their own projects!

Pinoy Drupal Power for newbies like me!

marcrobinsone - Mon, 2007-08-27 17:20

O, next week na pala ang event na'to.

Exciting! Do we have a vicinity map? Hindi kasi ako palagi sa Ortigas-MetroManila area eh.

I wish to bring along some of my friends/client-friends pero nakakahiya naman pag isang basketball team ang dumating.
Palagay ko, kung hindi uulan or babagyo (hwag naman sana), this event will be successful. (Sorry sa Taglish)

map, attendance, etc

ben_c - Mon, 2007-08-27 18:18

Thanks for replying. Taglish is okay! and yes, exciting nga!

Gising ka pa hehe. As soon as we finalize the venue, we can send out a map. Megamall and Robinsons Galle are pretty much easy to find (in case sa Gloria Jeans tayo). If we end up in the Dig It All Solutions office in Ortigas, that's just a walk away from Megamall.

We are surveying the attendance para makapaghanda ng mas malaking venue, if ever, para masaya!

Maganda rin na makapag-participate tayo sa worldwide software freedom day ngayon sept 15, 2007.

Ang Computer Professionals Union is organizing the event and we have a specific demo booth for drupal. Well because CPU has been using drupal on our training to NGOs.

You can find more information on the event at www.cp-union.org.

Hi Rick,

Maganda ang ginagawa ninyo. Kindly post the details din dito sa list natin, so we can push the info to others. I may be out of town on Sep 15, but we'll be sending people to visit your booth. We need to trade best practices on Drupal din! :)

Our SFD Experience
We have written short assesments during the past celebrations. In 2005, CPU organized the 2nd SFD with about 200 participants - students, enthusiasts, geeks. We even have Mandrake developers joining us before they proceeded to Australia. The Philippine Daily Inquirer and Manila Bulletin wrote articles about the event.

In 2004, we also organized the very first SFD. This was participated by users and newbies in free and open source software. Businessworldonline introduced CPU and SFD to the public on that year.

In 2006, University of the Philippines Linux Users' Group organized the event. UnPLUG won a community award for deployment from Software Freedom International.

If masyado palang lumaki ang group, we will have an alternative venue -- kaso sa QC (at Teacher's Village), if that's okay with everyone. Free din ito at may WiFi din.
