First: I'm not an expert, so you'll probably have to test and modify my suggestions a bit.

  • To make front page show only today's articles, I would suggest using the Views module and make a list of articles with publish date today. (You can then also customize how you wish to sort the articles, and which fields you want to display in the list - headers, teasers, etc.)
  • If you don't want old articles to be accessible at all, I would suggest de-publishing them via the module Views Actions. If you just don't want them on the front page, this will be taken care of by the solution above.
  • For the news mail I suggest first building the message, probably through Views (much in the same way you make the front page), and then export to a format that fits well into an e-mail. To e-mail, try one of the modules listed in the modules list at the group frontpage. (I'm pretty sure there are quicker ways of doing this, though.)

Hello,

For cirotix - I'v already readed that page, and got some tips from they.. but they don'd exactly what I need! :-( So I'v to choose different things! The newspaper what asked to me the renew work in a different way, and don't need a big managment.. they need something simple (Try to tell to someone who doesn't know how to turn on their pc.. of to manage everything lik NY observe.. it is painfull!). Btw Thank you! :-)

For Itangalo - I'm not expert too.. I'm playing with drupal from a week... and seems I'm on the good way (thanks god :P).. btw

For the article on the front page.. I'v thought to use the Scheduler module.. and (automatically) force the Un-Published status on the next day.. on that way I get the New article published and the old un-published. Anyway, I want to see the View Action module.. but I'm unalbe to find it! :( can u give me the link for get it?
I'v installed Views and Views Bonus pack.. but the Views Action doesn't appear in the modules! :O

For the news mail.. humm I'vnt understand well.. but I think because I'vnt played a lot with Views module, I want to try to do what u'v told to me, thank you a lot for the suggestion! :-)
I'v thought to create a PHP script to call everyday (I'v my own server where I host that newspaper, so it isnt a problem) who read the latest news and create the email and send it to who is subscribed, reading the email andress from the Simplenews subscriber ! :-) I Think it can be the last solution! :O

Thanks for all suggestion,
When I know something more about.. I'll tell to you :-)

Regards

Hello again

(1) The module I tried to refer to is actually called Views Actions Links, and is linked to under Views at the list of some useful modules. I think you will have great use of Views Actions Links and Views Scheduler - they seem to do exactly what you need for publishing.

(2) Writing your own PHP code is of course possible, but if you're new to Drupal chances are that you (a) modify Drupal in a way that will make it difficult to install upgrades, and that (b) your problem has already been solved by someone else.
I suggest that you have a closer look at Views Mail module, to see if you can make it fit your needs. (Maybe even Views Actions Links has an action to e-mail a list of articles.)

Good luck!

Scheduler.module doesn't exist for Drupal5

ufoonline - Thu, 2007-09-06 07:57

Hi,

I'v searched around but it need the Scheduler.module and I'v find it only for Drupal 4.7 :( Thereisnt a version for Drupal 5 ? :O

About the 2 - I doesn't wanted to modify Drupal code... it get me in the same situation I'v now with the joomla code, I'v modified some things.. and now I'm too lazy for do the upgrades on time :P
I just wanted to write an external PHP script who just do the SELECT query in the database :p

There is a reason for use Drupal 4.x istead of Drupal 5.x ?

Thanks for the help!!! .-)
Regards

Hi ufoonline

You'll find Scheduler at this node, and there's a link to download the 5.x version. (Browse around a bit at drupal.org : modules to discover some more modules if you haven't already done this.)

There is generally no reason to use an older Drupal model, unless you want a particular module that isn't already - and won't be - updated to the later versions. (But I would think twice before start depending on such a module in any case.)

You might consider waiting for Drupal 6, that will be launched in some months(?). However, you'll probably have to wait longer for some of the modules you want, and by that time Drupal 7 will be on its way. In my humble opinion it is therefore better to use the latest existing (stable) version, and keep the installation clean so you can upgrade easily.

Hello,

I think you need to use simplenews + related nodes. You could create a newsletter issue, with the "Related nodes" being a view of the new articles, whatever "new" means in your context.

Hope this helps,
