User group meeting

We're a real, big-kid regional user group now! The July meeting will be held in Rochester. Many thanks to David Moffitt (twitter: @coworkingroc) for offering to host us. I'll be bringing audio support like the June meeting since that worked pretty well. Heavy, but it works.

Use the Sign Up button on this page to indicate whether you plan to attend in person or remotely. Also, drop a note in the comments if you plan to attend via gotomeeting -- most of the info is below, but you need to register in order to be included on the broadcast email with the meeting password...

COWORKING ROCHESTER

Building 1, 2nd Floor

ABOUT: Coworking Rochester is a space that offers the best social elements of the coffee shop / cafe culture, with the stability of an office environment. When you step into Coworking Rochester you find other wireless workers and nomadic entrepreneurs sitting at big desks with proper lighting, in comfortable chairs, with bottomless cups of coffee, and a stable, fast, internet connection.

There was a suggestion to look at daytime venues. I looked back through the time of day polling we did some time ago both openly and by contact form, and reviewed the responses of people who've been attending meetings (sneaky, I know). There were three people that could attend during the day on a weekday, so I'm inclined not to open the discussion on that again. Do so anyway in the comments if you want to, I'm just predicting the outcome I guess. Prove me wrong! Revolt!!!

PRESENTATIONS

What I'd like to shoot for is at least one presentation of code (either module or theme) and another that's more on a site-builder/configurer topic. We're sort of trending toward that split, I think, and I think we can do both. Presos should be 20-30 minutes, which allows for Q&A time. Thoughts on that format? Anyway, volunteer below.

Hey! Anybody willing to present? (Pretty please? :)

Presentation Level

tedbow's picture

As far as possible presentations, what level Drupal user should they be aimed at? I am giving a Views intro presentation at Drupalcamp the next weekend. I could possibly do a shortened version of that presentation. But it wouldn't get into advanced topics.

Core developer

there are a lot of levels.

It looks like your preso is an intro-coming-to-intermediate "site builder" level, and we definitely have some members that fit the bill! I'd say you could make a few assumptions about the audience and start part way in & see how far you get in the time.

For the reference of everybody here, what would "advanced topics" cover, just in case you wanted to do a Part Un and Part Deux at different WNYDUG meetings? :)

[For me, it means attached views, calling views from custom modules, "views within views", "views as exportables", etc., but that's definitely not a presentation I'd want to prepare & present. :)]

The presentation sounds interesting

I think it sounds like an interesting presntation. I read on your bio that you work on the Moodle project, that might be interesting to hear about too.

One more slot!

Let's assume @tedbow's good for the shortened version of his Views preso. Anybody willing to share some code? Don't be bashful! We won't run it through coder.module in front of the group, I promise! (Okay, maybe we would. But still! Come on! ;)

Attending Virtually

I should be able to attend virtually. :)

Just on the off chance somebody in the Ithaca area is reading this and wants a ride. I am driving up from Ithaca to Rochester Tuesday(tomorrow) afternoon for this meeting. I would enjoy the company.

I am coming in from Ithaca and was wondering when I can arrive. Looks like Coworking Rochester closes at 6pm and our meeting starts at 7pm. When is someone coming to open our room/let us in? I don't want arrive too early and hang out in the parking lot.
