Hi guys,
I was wondering if you guys might be interested in some theming help for the new dojo site. I hope no one takes offense to me saying this, but it seems that there could be a more unified design.

My name is Aaron, and I make my living on Drupal. I would like to give something back, and at the moment theming is what I do best. If you want to look at the kind of site design I do you can see my business website at www.TranslationDesigns.com.

PS. I wouldn't be able to start doing it until next week. (Right now I have taken on a little too much work for my own good.)

Hey Aaron, we can definitely use help working on Dojo stuff. We are redesigning the site and are in the process of coming up with what the site should be. We should get to wireframes and hopefully start on new design ideas by the end of February. Actually building and theming the site probably won't start until March. You can keep up with where we are by keeping an eye on the "Dojo 2.0 Next Steps" posts that are stickied at the top of the group page and reading through the d.o issue queue.

I'll definitely send you a heads up when theming starts but you should feel free to jump in to the discussion around speccing out the features and building the wireframes as well. Thanks for your offer!

Greetings, Vinaya!

Speaking as the chap who built the previous design, I entirely agree. The site was thrown together in an evening, and it's been one of my ongoing regrets that I didn't have the time to spend on it that it deserved. I'm sure the dojoites will be glad to have help. :D

Ninja motif

Glad to hear that I won't be stepping on any one's pride and joy if we rework it. Drupal Dojo is known for it's ninja developers so we should make it look the part.

What do you guys think about capitalizing on the ninja idea and working out a logo and layout that incorporates a slick ninja motif with a dark edgy look? It's just an idea, but I have an inspiration that I think I could develop.

I like the idea, but still

I like the idea, but still want to be "Drupally".

Definitely work up your ideas!

Once we settle down some wireframes we'll be putting out an all-call for designers to come up with a cool design/logo for the new site. Hopefully that'll be coming around by the end of the month (ideally before Drupalcon) so getting a head start won't hurt. ;-)

Logo mock up

I was going to try to describe what I had in mind but then I figured it would be easier just to create it. So I did.
Truth be told it's not really slick. But it is Drupally. I uploaded it to my site so you all can look at it. http://www.translationdesigns.com/en/logo-idea-drupal-dojo

The logo is fine, however

The logo is fine, however logos should scale gracefully below 1.5 inches and still be recognizable, when that logo is displayed smaller on the site it will not look very good IMO

Scalable logo

Tis true. I just put that one together in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep. If people liked the concept and wanted the logo to be developed more I would invest the time to polish it. I don't want to spend too many hours on a finalized look until it is certain that it is the right idea.

Redesign++

I would love to have a redesign of drupaldojo.com based on the revised feature spec we came up with in January. Drop into IRC and ping me sometime if you want some devel/sysadmin help. We should also pull together a revised site-map, etc, based on the sections and features discussed at the Dojo 2.0 coffeetalk .

Is there a write up somewhere for the feature spec thing?

I'm sorry, but I don't know which feature spec you are referring to. I wasn't subscribed to this list until recently so I am a bit lost on some of this. Did the feature spec go into a specific look that they wanted, or more layout and functionality?

We have an issue queue on drupal.org with all kinds of goodies in it, including the issue on a spec. The spec is about functionality, not design, but we are now at the place of needing wireframes done up so we know what we are shooting for and then I plan to open up a design contest for the new site during Drupalcon.

To keep tabs on where we are with tasks I keep a list of our "Next Steps" in a sticky post at the top of the group page. I just posted February's and we have some smaller designy kinds of tasks that need done in addition to the wireframing.
