Resources based on four personas

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I have been thinking of the next step here and the best way to get a bit of momentum behind this again. For me the next step is to begin to create resources based on the personas. What do people think? I think in someways there is so much stuff that we could do that it can be a little overwhelming.

But, I guess, every journey starts with little steps and the best (and most Drupal-y) way to get something going is to make a start yourself! With that in mind I have a few projects I have been working on.

  1. Themeing docs written for HTML&CSS people. I am thinking of Sarah here but will also pitch them at the mythical 5th persona (of someone like Sarah but a little more experienced in the front-end)
  2. A base theme that would look something like http://starkerstheme.com/. Basically a base theme that makes theming Drupal a little more 'traditional', a little more like writing HTML.
  3. Collecting a list of useful resources that we find around the Drupal community. There is a lot of great stuff out there scattered in blogs and sections in drupal.org it just can be a little hard to find it all. I would like to create a super simple resource which collected these resources.

So what do people think?

Also (and this is half way between an excuse for my lack of action and an invitation) I am organising DrupalCamp Ireland which will take place on 20-21 Nov in Trinity College Dublin. If anyone would like to discuss anyone of this stuff it would be great to see you there!

Getting this started quickly using the personas

Replying to eoriordan's original comment above: I think this would be a great step forwards, and after investing effort in the personas we should all hope to get a return on that investment.

Should we try to link them to the user personas already created wherever possible? That way we can refer back to the goals that those users want to achieve, so we know we're solving "the right problems." So, given eoriordan's three examples:

  1. Themeing docs written for HTML&CSS people; goal=Sarah Mason, "I can theme with the least amount of fuss"
  2. A base theme which can do [specific functionality X]: goal=Jessica Peeters, "I can work fluidly and powerfully with themes and the Drupal themeing engine, not against them" (maybe - the goal depends on what functionality we want in the theme, or maybe vice versa :) )
  3. There's a lot of potential user stories in here. Maybe let's just get an initial list of resources started and worry about who they're benefiting when we've got a nice long list.

I've started a wiki page with these two tighter requirements, plus some space for more general resources, at http://groups.drupal.org/node/99834 . eoriordan, please feel free to reword and expand based on your thoughts; and, everyone else, please add resources you can think of!

Thats great!

Thanks for creating the two wikis.

I agree that it is important to link back to the personas when we can. One of the main points of the personas was to enable us to speak about our goals with something of a common language.

Also something I posted on the previous discussion but would like to just say again here is that the list of those three things are only the things that I find interesting and am interested personally in working more on. There are loads of different projects we could do. If there is another approach or another project that people find interesting we should talk about it (and then hopefully do it as well).

Anyway better get thinking of things to add to the wiki!
