Projects Needing Volunteer Developers

Now, ANYONE can easily make updates to an informal list of projects needing volunteer developers with a few clicks because the table exists on a wiki page!

This group is perfect for you if:
- you're a Drupal project maintainer/developer looking for a place to post your request for volunteer developers!
- you're a Drupal developer looking for a project that needs your help!

This group was created because a need exists to match Drupal developers with Drupal projects being worked on by project maintainer/developers needing volunteer developers** in order to enhance and add to:
- Drupal core
- Drupal contributed modules
- and other Drupal-related projects.

There are project maintainers/developers that prefer actual coding assistance over funds and, likewise, developers out there who want to volunteer their time and skills to projects needing them. This new group hopes to satisfy both project maintainers/developers and volunteer developers by centralizing the various projects here for easy review and discussion and helping the parties link and match up.

Volunteer developers can help the Drupal community, and themselves, by contributing their skills and time to specific projects. This will help Drupal projects receive the necessary support to get them finished and donated back to Drupal. It's a win-win-win situation where the Drupal community, the volunteer developers, and the project maintainers/developers hoping to complete a project all benefit!

If you would like to receive volunteer developer's assistance in order to help complete a project**, this group is for you! Your code contributions are both needed and very much appreciated so if you need help, ask for it and, hopefully, someone will lend you a hand. Please leave a comment that includes:
- Project maintainer(s)/Developer(s) and/or company name(s) with a link(s): (examples: Derek Wright (dww on Drupal.org) or CivicSpace or BuyBlue.org)
- Project being worked on: (examples: the new system for releasing Drupal contributions or og2list or organic group enhancements)
- Any specifics on the type of volunteer assistance you need (example: hard coding or coding review, etc.)
- Web site and/or contact info with additional information (if applicable): www.example.com/help-me-build-a-coffee-maker-drupal-module

If you would like to be a volunteer developer, this group is for you! Your time and skills are both needed and very much appreciated. You'll learn about some exciting projects that need help because developers will post their needs here. Please leave a comment that includes:
- Your volunteer and/or business name with a link(s): (example: Walt Esquivel, Wellness Corps)
- Web site(s) with any additional information you might want to include: (example: www.example.com/i-love-to-volunteer-my-time-to-drupal)

Thanks,
Walt Esquivel, MBA; MA; President, Wellness Corps; Captain, USMC (Veteran)
$50 Hosting Discount Helps Projects Needing Financing

**Project maintainers/Developers are hereby notified that any project(s) posted to the "Projects Needing Volunteer Developers" group must be donated back to the Drupal community and included, if applicable, in Drupal contributed modules. This will be on the honor system.

Volunteers needed: Drupal development / theming (Updated) | The BRussells Tribunal

Telecommute:
Allowed

UPDATE:

No one has responded, so we are obliged to try to do this ourselves. We run into many problems in terms of development and implementation (internationalization, theme integration, etc). We still need help. On theming we have two themes selected and we try to merge them, to get the best out of both. Please write me if you think you can assist. Thanks for reading.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

There are no financial resources available for this work (i.e., there is no money). We look for volunteers. We ourselves are volunteers. Your contribution will be acknowledged, of course (if you wish), and we can provide letters of recommendation if needed. Your main reward, like ours, is a lighter conscience, knowing that you did something for the benefit of human rights and justice worldwide, and specifically for Iraqi victims. We believe that the protection and promotion of human rights is a duty that rests on the shoulders of all of us; that all of us should use whatever skills we have, in part at least, towards that end. Please read the posting in full and you will see that volunteering for this project would be a good use of your skills, and your time, for an initiative that could have a real world impact. Thank you for listening.

To all Drupal enthusiasts and experts:

I am involved in an initiative to hold accountable US and UK leaders for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in Iraq, including 2.5 million excess Iraqi deaths since 1990 and the displacement of 4.7 million more.

After nearly two years of planning, and several months of organisation and writing, last week we filed in Spain, at the Audiencia Nacional under laws of universal jurisdiction, a legal case naming four US presidents and four UK prime ministers. You can read our press release here.

This case is a historic step forward in the struggle for justice for Iraq, and by extension in the struggle for human rights against colonial and imperial crimes worldwide. If allowed to be a precedent, what happened in Iraq could happen elsewhere.

Where Drupal comes in
Around 18 months ago I posted a request for assistance in these forums (see here). As our initiative was getting underway, I could see immediately the potential of Drupal for online collaboration and social network building.

Drupal Open Learning Initiative

There are many great Drupal learning resources, groups, and tools but they can be somewhat disconnected and spread out. Our goal is to unify and bring these efforts together to provide a complimentary program and platform that serves all Drupal learning initiatives needs and efforts.

Drupal Kata
The Drupal Kata is a new project learning program that provides hands on training in a wide range of areas ranging from site planning, drafting proposals, project management, information architecture, development, design, infrastructure, to business and community. It does this by pairing apprentices with a mentor or mentors, thus gaining exposure to real-world scenarios and connections with the local and global community. The knowledge transfer allows apprentices to become proficient, contribute back to the community, and retain the skills for gainful employment in the field of their choice.

Drupal Dojo
The evolutionary stages of the program seeks to follow through with the Drupal Dojo 2.0 vision by building off complimentary sites and collaborating with existing teams. A collaboration with the Open Media Project will provide a unique opportunity to craft a custom program to provide development help, training, and documentation and marketing on a regional level.

Volunteer Developer to move 5-12 site to 6-10 (or fix) | Palyul Ling International

Employment type:

Employment type:
Part time
Employment type:
Contract
Telecommute:
Allowed

Our Buddhist Monastery needs help moving a Drupal 5-12 site to Drupal 6-10. Have already attempted one move and it has failed due to the installation of i18n translation module (really hard to uninstall!) It might be the only way to help would be to help us extract all content from mySQL so we can import it into a new site. Hope not! :)

Secondarily, we could use help writing new template for site. Design exists, but need someone with PHP and CSS skills to implement. There is also the opportunity to help with other aspects of work within Palyul.org domain.

Newbie Looking for Pro-Bono Projects (Ecommerce?)

I previously was working on an ecommerce site which had much potential for growth. 15 hours into getting the right modules, doing some work in taxonomy and focusing on the functionality of the site...the project got pulled from my docket. So now, I have no idea what kind of thing I can do to continue enriching my Drupal skills. Sadly, I learn best by doing.

Any chance that I might find someone here looking for someone willing to work for low pay or pro-bono, since it is the experience I seek most. If that is not what this group is for, than I apologize.

Could someone please take over this group?

I'm currently the "Manager" of this group but am trying to cut down on my group subscriptions and desire to leave this group. When I go to "My Membership" for this group, it states: "You may not leave this group because you are its owner. A site administrator can assign ownership to another user and then you may leave."

So, anyone interested in taking over the group? Please let me know by posting a reply here.

Thank you!
Walt

Bounty: advanced FAPI | matslats.net

Employment type:
Contract
Telecommute:
Allowed

I'm building a community currency trading module and I've spent several days now wrestling with Form API in 6.x. I have no income from this but I need this form built for me, so I'm offering a bounty of $200.

My modules defines a node-type called transaction which consists of buyerID, sellerID, quantity, description of trade and other fields. Here is the user story I am trying to achieve.

  • User goes to the page of the person he wants to trade with, where there is a 'new transaction' block. This means the system already knows both uids.

    Alternative Currency Support

Hundreds of communities trading with complementary currencies need this!

Two years ago, working with the UK Coordinator for LETS I prototyped an architecture to support these communities with all their variants. Right now I have time to port it to Drupal which is the obvious platform. Progress is slow because I'm learning on the job, so this project needs mentoring.
