Seattle
Welcome to the Seattle Users' Group!
The SEADUG meets regularly (at least once a month officially) to talk about Drupal, to plan Drupal events like Drupal Camp, and have some Drupal Fun. During SEADUG meetings we showcase modules and projects. Share tips and tricks and answer nagging questions about Drupal. We've discussed possible "barn raisings" for worthy organizations or code sprinting on modules.
This is a geographic Drupal User Group meant primarily for planning local Drupal related events and supporting users locally.
PLEASE do not post job offers in this group unless they are local to Seattle. Any job posted to this group that is not in the Seattle/King County Metropolitan Area will be promptly removed.

Module Development Talk - D5 or D6?
On Friday, May 9, I am giving an a talk about module development at DrupalCamp Vancouver. The first I gave this talk was a month ago for folks who were going to create a Drupal site the next weekend. With CCK and Views still under development for D6, I focused on Drupal 5 and my code snippets were Drupal 5 examples.

I've got two ideas of Seattle DrupalCamp logos in need of a designer.
One is for a button, and the other possibly for a shirt. If you've got the skillz, drop a note here or send me an email directly (through the contact tab) and we'll talk.

module permissions for query?
Hi, can I add any custom functions to a module or, do they need to be registered in the menu system? I have some lookup routines that work fine for admin but are not called for anonymous users. I tried using the _underscore naming and that didn't allow them. template.php is in a different scope or something, nothing from there... Should they get added as menu_tasks? Thanks for any help
Drupal Camp Vancouver
Now that the Drupal presence at LinuxFest Northwest is done (talks all day today!) Drupal Camp Vancouver is coming up in 2 weeks (Fri/Sat May 9/10). http://www.drupalcampvancouver.org/
I took at look at transportation options.
* The folks I talked to at LinuxFest today seemed to think a car would not be necessary once one got to Vancouver. Seems likely.
* The train station is 1.6 km or less from the Friday and Saturday locations of Drupal Camp
* I think the bus station is the same place (not sure).

nodeaccess trouble
Has anyone been using the nodeaccess module in production? We've got it setup on our site but I'm having trouble getting grants to take.
I don't see what the pattern is but but after 'granting' a user view & edit permission, there's still no 'View| Edit' link.
I tried clearing the menu and other caches. This happens to be a section of the site that anonymous users are denied 'view.'

Node Import & UID assignment with email address
A new website will help Seattle startups find worksites for rent or lease. Initially, worksite information will be bulk entered with a customized Node Import module. One data import field will be email. A module modification is needed to assign UID with an email lookup. If a UID is not found, a stub user account automatically would be created as node owner. Once a worksite node is imported, an anonymous user, who owns the associated email, could claim ownership with a request for new password.

Gnomepal Community Information and Discussion
The Gnomepal project is still brewing, and the communication tools are coming together - the hope is to build Gnomepal.org as a live sandbox for groups / communities, as what's the point of building a community tool if the community itself can't use it?
For collaboration or general discussion, I have these vehicles at my immediate disposal until we have everything assembled properly on Gnomepal.org itself:
- IRC on irc.freenode.net in #drupal-gnomepal
- Live Interoperability on a Ventrilo server (I must grant you access first)

Seattle PHP Study Group Forming, Meet Thurs April 3
A few people at last night's SeaDUG meeting expressed interest in a PHP Study Group that is evolving out of the Seattle PHP Group mailing list. We're not sure yet what level to start, area to focus - it depends on who shows up and expresses interest!
We (the PHP mailing-list folk) have agreed to meet an hour in advance of the regular Seattle PHP Meetup to decide when, where and what to study together. Please see this post for details.

LinuxFest Northwest is happening on the weekend of April 26-27, 2008, 10 AM to 5 PM both days, in Bellingham. In spite of its name, it's intended to be an open-source festival, not just Linux.
At the March SeaDUG meeting, we discussed how to get a Drupal presence going at LinuxFest Northwest. This Wiki page (feel free to edit) is for planning how to do that.

Anyone go to a local univeristy or college (looking for drupalcamp locations)
Are there any SeaDUG members who attend any of the local colleges or universities (or work at them) or have any idea about the process of getting rooms for events?
We are looking for locations for DrupalCamp, and it might also be a good idea to find a new larger location for our DUG meetings (though i guess there will be no beer at school :-( )

Linuxfest Northwest -- SeaDug booth?
Hi Folks,
I plan to be at the Seattle meeting next wednesday, but I wanted to post this event for all seadugers -- I work with the linuxfest northwest org team, and after going to SCALE linux in February and drupalcon last week, I think it'd be a good idea to get a few drupal enthusiasts to man a booth and possibly do a presentation as well.
For more information about the festival, goto: http://www.linuxfestnorthwest.org/
Site-building article
At the last Seattle DUG meeting, I gave an impromptu Intro to Drupal to a few people who were relatively new to Drupal, and mentioned that I was planning to write an article describing how to get started building sites in Drupal.
Well, I've published at least the first pass at that article. I'd love to get some comments -- hopefully I haven't said anything that is totally misleading! Here's the link: http://poplarware.com/drupalcheatsheet.html

Deployment module
At the last DUG I was talking with several people about a deployment framework I've been working on, and demo'ing some of what it can do. I have just released an alpha version of this framework on drupal.org.
http://drupal.org/project/deploy
I'll be at the co-work tomorrow, if anyone wants to come by and talk about it. I know a couple people asked about getting involved, which would be great. I am especially in need of people willing to do some testing, there are so many configurations out there it's really important to get as many different scenarios involved as possible.
Thanks!
