The attendance at the Spokane-area meetings I've organized the past few months has been pretty low, so I'm trying something new this month to better accomodate the people who have been coming regularly:
What: "Co-working" time - bring your laptop! Come with either a project to work on, a willingness to volunteer to improve Drupal in some way (documentation, programming, design, marketing etc.), or a desire to help others with their projects.
Where: Argonne Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road, Millwood, 509-893-8260 (main conference room)

Connecting with the community
We had a short discussion at yesterday's Spokane Drupal Group meeting about how to get connected with the wider Drupal community. So I thought I'd post a few ideas -- anyone with things to add, please do!
Finding out what's going on
Here are some ways to keep up with what's happening in the Drupal community.

Read moreNo October Spokane meeting (probably)...
We had a good meetup yesterday -- 3 people came, and once the power came back on (!), we had some good discussions and helped each other to resolve some Drupal issues that we were seeing. August was good too -- we had 7 people, and many lively Drupal-realted discussions.
But... I am thinking about not organizing a meeting for October. This is because I have a very busy schedule:
- Drupal beginner's workshop the next 3 Mondays: http://groups.drupal.org/node/169934
Spokane Beginning Drupal Site Building Workshop
Building Web Sites with Drupal: A Workshop for Beginners
Dates: 3 Mondays - September 19, September 26, October 3
Time: 6 PM - 8:30 PM
Location: Strong Solutions, 1718 E. Sprague Avenue, Spokane, WA 99202 (plenty of on-street parking)
Registration: http://spokanedrupal2011.eventbrite.com/
Cost: $5.00 to cover materials (instructor and helpers are volunteering this time as a service to the Spokane Drupal community, and Strong Solutions is donating the space!)
Note: You must register at EventBrite in order to attend, thanks!

As discussed at one or more of the last Spokane Drupal Group meetings, I've been thinking of putting on a Drupal Site Building for Beginners workshop.
Ideas:
- Use Drupal 7 (even though it might not be fully ready for complex sites, it seems like it would be lame to use Drupal 6 at this point)
- Topics: Installation, Blocks, Menus, Content types/fields, Views, Webforms, and maybe some other basics

Apparently, at least one person has not been attending the Drupal meetings in Spokane, due to them being on Wednesdays (I didn't know -- just assumed that since they had been on Wednesdays, we should keep doing Wednesdays). So, starting with the August meeting (too late to change July at this point), I'd like to find out what day(s) work for people. We might alternate days (like, say, Tuesday one month and Wednesday the next) -- but let's see which days work for people.

problems with Private Files on Media Temple DV server
Hey everyone, I'm having problems serving private files on Media Temple's DV servers. I've never built a site that needed access to images/files served privately, so this is new. Maybe someone else has experience with this in D7.
Here's the story: I'm at the tail end of building a brand asset management system for a client. The the site will be serving logomarks, photography, presentation docs, video. These files need to only be accessible to logged-in users.
