Utah
Welcome to the Utah Drupal Users Group!
Utah is a state in the western part of the United States with some of the world's best ski slopes. Salt Lake City is the state capital.
This group is intended to teach about Drupal, help with installation and collaborate in customization and development of new functionality (modules, themes and so on). All comments and questions are welcome. Please feel free to join this group.
Meeting Report
How did the meet-up go? Can someone provide a summary of what was talked about? Did we have 6 show up?
My apologies for not being there. With a sick newborn and a difficult 2 year-old I just couldn't leave my wife (who ironically broke her foot last week). Anyway, as you can see there was really only one good choice. :)
Drupal Utah group meeting - June 30 2009
It sounds like we agree on June 30, 2009. Thanks to the guys at American Academy for being gracious hosts. We'll plan on 7pm, unless the group decides otherwise. I think discussion will be primarily about setting up different types of photo galleries, and the For Every Child site will be used as our example. Other topics are welcome.
When should the next Drupal meeting be?

WOW! DrupalCampLA 2009 - Aug 8-9 - planning wiki - help make drupal great!
- First, do this ... block these dates! Aug 8 & 9.
- Second, please, please, we will need help, volunteers, and session proposals at all levels.
- Third, we still need some more sponsors. We've already had some great verbal commitments, but we're looking to lock 'em down.
- Fourth, follow LAdrupal on twitter
- Lastly, check back often... this is just a planning wiki, so details are still slushy right now.
Drupal Developer | The American Academy
The American Academy is an online high school built upon Drupal technology. If you came to the last group meeting, then you have been to our offices - downtown, SLC. We are currently in the process of converting from a Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 code base... which is proving to be a rather large project. Much of our existing code employed custom MySQL tables, with custom queries, something we are working to move away from, toward CCK and Views.
Taxonomy Questions
I'm working on a review type website and i've broken it into Categories. I got the Categories working with Taxonomy which is pretty cool, but what I want to do is when someone goes to a "Category" I want to give them the option to sort the listing by popularity (and other criteria) would the Views Module be the thing to do that?
Thanks,
I'm trying to plan out how to do a review type site in Drupal if anyone has done something similar.
Anyone know of a good Rating Module which does this
I'm looking for a Rating/Review Module where basically you can create a "Review" Content Type and review that item based on multiple criteria, so say you were reviewing different Apples based on 'Redness', 'Taste', 'Value', etc..
So the owner of the site could rate the product based on those three criteria.
Also a Registered user could rate the items but the registered users ratings would be seperate but combined into a single 'user rating'.
If anyone knows of a good Review system that would help alot in my upcoming Drupal Project.
Thanks
DrupalCamp Colorado Registration Opened!
DrupalCamp Colorado Registration has been opened! You can register at the main camp website - http://www.drupalcampcolorado.org
DrupalCamp Colorado is the regions biggest gathering of people interested in Drupal. The event is based around sessions proposed from the community and voted on by attendees. Camp is funded by a mix of entry fees and sponsorships.
DrupalCamp Colorado 2009
June 27 and 28th we will be at the Denver PPA Event Center (2105 Decatur St. Denver, CO 80211).
Next meetup
I'm assuming by the lack of discussion on the website that everyone has been very busy, so I think it's safe to wait till June for our next meeting. Is everyone cool with that?
Also, for the next meeting I'd like to cover two subjects that I think are useful for everyone:
- Photo galleries
- Private content
We could use the ForEveryChild website we started last meeting as our example. I think this should take 30-45 minutes to cover, so there will be plenty of time for any other presentation ideas.
Group Manager
I'm proposing that we move the manager position to another active member in our group. It may even be a good idea to have multiple managers to keep things moving along if the other is busy. There are some cool things that can be done on these group sites and without an active Manager we can't really take advantage of this.
Recording the next meet-up
I want to get everyone's thoughts on whether it would be worthwhile for us to record anything at this next meet-up. At future meet-ups I'll definitely do a better job with my camera/audio work (if you've seen the one from our last meet-up you'll know what I'm talking about). I'm just wondering if it'd be something that the people that can't make it would want to watch. I'm guessing that if we're all going to be working on this site that it'd be hard to really get some good shots of what we're doing.
Ideas? Thoughts? Comments? etc.
Marathon website - ForEveryChild.org
On Tuesday we will be creating a website for the non-profit organization For Every Child, an adoption agency that works with orphanages in Taiwan and Haiti. For Every Child helps families navigate through the US and foreign courts to make the adoption possible. The current websites they have are:
Tuesday's Website Marathon Agenda
I’m sure there are many of us who feel very comfortable walking through a website start to finish. And there are those who may not feel like an expert at the entire process, but are comfortable with some part of it. For this reason I’d like to divide up the process into sections and ask others to step in and present a section. Trust me when I say that this will get pretty boring if I’m the only one presenting! So step up and take a section.
DATC.edu Relaunch on Drupal 6
Just wanted to let you guys know I just relaunched our DATC.edu site on Drupal 6. It was a heck of a project that I've been working on over the last few weeks and months. I finally set a schedule to get it done (3.5 Days) and I did it!
Go check it out! Any feedback is welcome!
I'll have a write-up on my work blog and personal blog when I get a chance tomorrow.

(Thanks to Chuck for his help porting over some of my PHP snippets. :) )
Who will be joining us on Tuesday April 21st, 7:00 pm, for our "Start to Finish Website Marathon"?
Website Creation Process
Here's a basic checklist of how I set up a Drupal website from scratch. I'm sure I've missed some steps, which is why I'm adding this as a wiki page. If you see anything that I've missed, or something that seems unnecessary, please make the correction and add your name by it. I'm sure there's room for debate on some of these things, and I think it might be good to discuss some of these issues here. So feel free to add a link to another discussion page for any topic.
Drupal Training @ BYU
A few of us are running Drupal training over the next few weeks. For more details see the original post announcing the training -- https://island.byu.edu/content/announcing-drupal-training
The next training is tomorrow (Friday April 2nd). We'll be covering the basics of CCK/Views -- for more info see https://island.byu.edu/content/drupal-training-2-build-job-posting-site-...

Here's a link to the video of last night's Meet-Up. My apologies for my fat head being in the way the entire time. :)
The audio should be loud enough to pick up what's going on though. This was the group's first time trying to record the meet-up and post it up for everyone to see so we're learning!

Drupal Tank Meeting Notes 3-17-09
The Drupal Tank meeting went quite well. Thanks to all those that made this possible, and all those that came. Craig (TapocoL) presented his configuration and file structure for his site at http://www.craigjacksonweb.com. Kyle Matthews shared with us about DrupalCon. You can review the DrupalCon presentations (which includes resources they used such as websites and slides, and even some have video) here http://dc2009.drupalcon.org/schedule.
Which day would be best for our next Drupal Tank meeting? (please see http://groups.drupal.org/node/19299#comment-69044)

Ideas for next meeting
Hey,
I was thinking of some ideas for the next meeting and some topics that would be helpful to me would be discussing addons and layouts for different types of general sites anyone might have.
e.g. News Website, E-Commerce, Blog Site, Article Based, etc.. And different ways you could use Drupal to approach a general site idea.
February 17th Drupal Meeting
Tuesday February 17th at 7:30PM to 9:30PM at the ODIN Office
You don't have to stay the 2 hours but if you can come for a portion of the meeting and contribute your experience it would make for a better gathering.

February 17th meeting
What are the plans for this meeting? Are we just showing up with a random bucket of things to present? Are we going to try to nail down a particular topic for presentations?
I suggest we get the ones who want to present on February 17th to prepare now. So, we can get word out at least a week in advance with the topics of presentations. This will give time to persuade some of the possible showers to come out to check out a certain topic. I really do not want to have another meeting where we do not really know what is going to be presented, and it feels like we are just winging it.
Drupal Tank - January 13, 2009 Minutes
Here are the minutes we said we would post. Review them and let us know if there are any suggestions and things on top of what we discussed that you would like to add to the conversation. We'll be posting some stuff at DrupalTank.org also.
Got to thank Curtis Jensen for taking these minutes.
Calling all vBulletin Experts!!!
All,
I am working on a client's Drupal site that integrates with a vBulletin 3.8 forum. My client wants me to make some changes and optimizations to vBulletin, but I know nothing about vBulletin and I'd love to keep it that way! (call me a Drupal snob...) Does anyone have vBulletin experience or know of a good place to look for vB help? I know vB offers commercial support, but I don't want someone to give me suggestions, I'd like someone to come in and do the work themselves.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

Drupal Tank Topics
We're looking for topics for Drupal Tank. Please submit your suggestions. I'll create a poll to see what people are thinking about too. Please list different ideas you have. Please volunteer if you have some ideas you would like to present and we can go with those ideas also.
We've had some comments referring to LDAP and Active Directory integration. That's not anything I have experience with but if someone wants to volunteer to put together something on that we are open to that.
We've decided on a multi meeting topic for now on using Organic Groups/CCK/Views/Panels together.
Leave any comments letting the group know what you would like to learn about. I'll crawl through some other discussions and see if I can dig up anything discussed in the past that people wanted to get some education on.
Drupal Developer | HockeyPlayer.com
I have a Drupal Site that is about 85% done and the contract developer (out of state) has left me hanging to get things finished up. I need someone local (Utah) that I can pay on an hourly basis to get the site to where I can push it live -- and to contract on an ongoing basis to make improvements and possibly to develop other sites. The current site is www.hockeyplayer.com/home
I believe it is in Drupal 6.
Please email me at quint@drumsondemand.com
There is just some window dressing that needs to be done, etc. I also need some help with executing the google ads module, etc.
Doing it With Drupal?
Hey,
Anyone else heading to New Orleans this week for the Lullabot "Do It With Drupal" training conference? I'd love to hook up, if anyone else from Utah is headed out there.
If not, I'll try to take really good notes ;-)

Utah Drupal Tank
Hey everybody. I know I got involved awhile back and haven't showed up to any meetings yet, but I've got some commitment from our whole team at ODIN Development now to sponsor a meeting place and regular meetings down in Utah County. We've actually revisited our business plan and have decided to make Drupal a huge part of it. In doing so we want to get a lot more involved in the local Drupal community and global one. Everyone and anyone who can make it is invited.
Resources for Drupal Community Organizers
Here's some idea / resources that Acquia has gathered. I thought they might spark ideas for events we could hold as well as provide useful resources.
Are you interested in coming to an Oct. 11th meeting?
Meet-up?
Well, we haven't had a meet-up in around 4 months. And, I would like to set-up a meet-up to get things possibly going again within this group. I am willing to do a topic on my Google Summer of Code Project on Drupal (Validation API). I understand there were two others from this group in the GSoC (kyle_mathews and jtsnow) that may want to add into my presentation as well.
"Talk Like a Pirate" day on Symantec's Juice
Today, (September 19) Symantec took our advice (against their better judgement), gambled and let us install the "Talk Like a Pirate" module (http://drupal.org/project/pirate) on their "Juice" community at http://juice.altiris.com
It's been a blast!
If you read this on the 19th, drop by and read how the filter changes regular posts into "pirate speak".
If you missed the event, here's a sample post from one of the users:
Wow. Pirate auto-conversion!

Novell Community Redesign
Hey all,
Just a heads up that Novell's Drupal community has recently undergone a facelift: http://www.novell.com/communities
Kudos to Axis41 (www.axis41.com) for the design, Odin Development (www.odindev.com) for the theming, and my company, WebWise (www.webwiseone.com) for project management.
Ogden Live training event CANCELLED!
Sorry people, no one was interested in my training event scheduled for October so it is cancelled.
I am however looking for local Drupaller to get involved with the same concept just moving in a different direction and I would love to have local designers and programmers to get involved with this venture.
If you're a Ninja, message me for more details.
I have secured 3 domains that can all be used for Drupal training in various formats as well as various aspects.
PHP, Ubercart Programmer | Aquaveo
We've recently created a new site using Drupal & Ubercart to handle our e-commerce. We are looking for someone that can customize this to fit our unique needs. I'm told it will require extensive PHP programming. Please contact us at john@ems-i.com or 801 302-1400.

An announcement for Drupal Users using Salesforce.com
I am proud to announce the availability of a new module for Drupal integration with Salesforce.com CRM users. I posted on our group page a while ago regarding a potential module that would integrate Salesforce's Lead Form into the Webform module that we've all grown to love. Well... I was able to get in contact with a developer from Ohio, who was excellent to work with, that did just that for us.
