There were a lot of ideas about our next gathering, when, where and what format.

Thanks Mike for getting the ball rolling on this - long overdue.

I like the format that we did tonight - very casual. It was amazing to see so many people, i honestly thought we might have only 4 or 5 people out.

That being said, I also like the idea of how SNTTT runs - a 20-30 min presentation and then q/a, then general networking after that.

Along those lines I'd very interested to see what others are working on in the area - but also, as most of you saw tonight, I do like to talk. I have numerous projects I could discuss covering almost anything Drupal related. Some of the ones that spring to mind are:

  • my recently released Authentication module (not so much for what it does, but the cool way it does some things that might be useful to others in a wide variety of other module designs)
  • the RSS feed/caching system used to create content on that "well known record label site that shall remain nameless"
  • "best practices" for Drupal site development
  • advanced use of the Views module
  • or whatever people are interested in

I agree with Peter that the SNTT or DemoCamp format of short presentations followed by Q/A and then beer time is a great format for these types of evenings.

As for initial show and tell type presentions I would love to see our first meetings dedicated to maybe some more basic stuff like best practices and discussions of the more popular and powerful modules (like CCK and views for example). For those of us still getting our feet wet I could see these sessions being very valuable, though I appreciate that they could be a bit on the dull side for the more seasoned veterans. And that's my two cents.
