While rating modules is against the spirit of the Drupal contrib. community, I'm sure many of you have seen www.drupalmodules.com - which has some great peer reviews and suggestions for modules for your next project.
One of the main drawing points to Drupal as a CMS is the size of the community, the quality of the code base (and contrib modules), but also the dizzying array of module choices available to us. Drupalmodules.com helps reduce the noise - and so far, the top module list is bang-on.
One new module I found through this method is the "Admin Role" module.
A major annoyance (at least to me) with Drupal, is that every new module needs to be 1. activated and 2. permissions set for the admin user. The Admin Role module automatically sets permissions & access to the default admin to eliminate this step.
Check it out, let me know what you think!
