Next Newsletter Issue

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
You are viewing a wiki page. You are welcome to join the group and then edit it. Be bold!

Hope no one minds if I start up a brainstorming / drafting wiki for the next Newsletter. The idea is not to be comprehensive, but to take special highlights of major events/ideas that's in the Drupal zeitgeist. I like the new style "links leading to individual articles" newsletter where the landing page is a teaser/table of contents of sorts. We can break up the contents into sections later when we know how much stuff we have.

1) Drupalcon Szeged - notable sessions, Dries' talk, etc

2) Drupal.org redesign efforts (sum up why and how the community is doing this. How much funding is reserved for this from the Drupal Association? What are the challenges ie. outdated project module, still on Drupal 5, etc)
I can write this, I've been digging into it on my blog already. --RobinMonks

3) Drupal Documentation changes -
a) the major change of opening up editing rights for all in the Handbook (implementation details currently in discussion)
b) the new "How to Contribute" section currently being prepared

Regular sections

"Case study" - last time we had a lot of these types of content. they're fun and looks great for the community.

Upcoming Events / Community

  • Bay Area Drupalcamp
  • needs a lot more fleshing out, probably not too hard to find a lot of material for this section.

I also propose a "Meet the family" series of articles. Introducing our readers to individuals who have made / are making a difference in the community. I propose the first candidate to be webchick, who just became D7 maintainer and won the Google-O'Reilly Best Contributor award back in July. Details at drupal.org/webchick-wins-best-contributor-open-source-awards

It's timely, and people need to know who she is.

Resources section - perhaps a book review of one of the new books coming out?

News for developers: - I think for core contributors, they won't get anything new out of this section, but for the one-spot contributors (maybe they only have one module under their wing, or tested a couple of patches, etc) this will be useful

Drupal 7, what's going on? Code freeze schedule?

Major security updates

A few statistics about Drupal 6 module compatibility?

I'll be posting up draft text when I have it written. Feel free to comment/add sections, etc.
