Actual Meeting Agenda:

  • Introductions

  • Presentation by Bart Clarkson on his implementation of the new Museum of Flight web site http://museumofflight.org/

  • Business Items

    • Seattle Center for Book Arts (SCBA) Barnraising Wrap Up - Jared is getting people together to wrap up a few items from about a year ago - watch groups.drupal.org/seattle for more details (when, where, etc.) - should be sometime before Christmas

    • DrupalCamp http://groups.drupal.org/node/16280 - this will be our fourth camp, and we've decided we'd rather do it in the winter, going forward, than be inside on a summer weekend. DrupalCon is in March, so we thought it would be good to do it a bit before that, so people could test presentations. There's also a WordPress camp going on in that time frame -- could be interesting to do it at the same time, so people could go back and forth (and maybe some cross-camp sessions around content or other common concerns).

  • Questions, Answers, and Comments - What have you done lately, or what are you trying to do?

    • David: A note on getting taxonomy and gmap views to behave
    • Josh: Exporting Drupal's content to XMLRPC, so a static/Flash site can use Drupal's content in a disconnected way - can it be made more general, maybe with a view? Is it worth making it more general? Maybe as a way to get content into a legacy/enterprise set-up? Heyrocker: could be useful to have a file as intermediary in my deployment module sometimes, such as to get around a firewall. Could it be a way to dump the site for SVN or other version-control system?
    • Heyrocker: new version of deployment system is in development - can break off to hear about it - at the end
    • Jared and David: Let's talk about Komodo when we split up at the end - Komodo is an Integrated Development Environment, can be used for debugging Drupal (PHP debugging). Not free, but not expensive, and good software. Eclipse supposedly works for debugging, but it's tricky to get working. Zend studio is another PHP debugging environment, awesome but more expensive (recommend version 5 instead of 6).
    • Gregory: has anyone tried updating Drupal 5.x to 6.x? David: doing one now, not going too smoothly. Be sure to follow the instructions.
    • Gregory: anyone using Aquia's distro? Others: What is it? It's a pre-packaged Drupal distribution from Aquia, with a set of working modules, free to use. Heyrocker's company is using it, he's not sure why they went so strongly for it, but it does give you a nice starting point with some useful modules. Aquia is trying to get dev shops to partner with them, so the dev shop's clients will sign up with Aquia for support. However, if you add more modules, Aquia won't support the others, which could be kind of a support nightmare.
    • Larry: Need some resources for learning about Views 2 in Drupal 6. Gotchas from group: Need to save your changes before you leave the page. Beware of "update defaults" vs. "overwrite defaults". Jared suggests: http://learnbythedrop.com/drop/22 . Gregory suggests getting the upcoming "Using Drupal" book, by Lullubot, published by O'Reilly.
    • Larry: How to migrate from the developer platform to the live site? Backup and Migrate module, or use mysqldump, or PHPMyAdmin to dump the database. If you only want part of the database, you can use export/import in CCK and Views and Panels to move things back and forth.
    • Gregory: Anyone going to "Do It With Drupal?" Gregory is, apparently no one else, he will report back.
    • Gregrory is working on an SEO for Drupal presentation, hopes to present it here for practice sometime.
    • Heyrocker: Flag module is cool - allows users to flag (mark) content and users, very flexible, integrated with views
    • Gregory: Wants a module like "Link Field" that will allow the link to show the favicon from that link, instead of link text, or in addition
    • Bart: Any way to reuse images? Gregory: Asset module (not to be confused with Asset Manager or Asset Field). May be improved in Drupal 7 core as well. But it doesn't work well with ImageCache or Lightbox, or at least didn't used to, may be improved. And it is also complex, users will need training.
    • Gregory: Media Mover Alpha 1 has been released
    • Drupal 5 or Drupal 6, for new sites? Consensus is Drupal 6
  • Next meeting

    • Where? Methodologie, 720 Third Avenue, Suite 800 (3rd & Columbia)
    • When? December 18
  • Break out into smaller groups - after the meeting

    • heyrocker: new deployment system - very technical
    • Komodo
