Bridged Adapter Works - Except for Drupal Sites

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I have a win 7 host and quickstart virtualbox setup with a bridged network. Incoming connections are routed to the virtualbox server and I can see, for example, the phpmyadmin login page from the web.

Unfortunately I cannot see example.dev from the web. I get "The requested URL /example.dev/ was not found on this server." and the by line "Apache/2.2.17 (Ubuntu) Server at 82.nnn.nnn.nnn Port 80" So it is clearly finding the web server but somehow the URL doesn't pass muster. There is no problem accessing example.dev from inside the virtualbox.

These are the URLs as entered in Chrome that attempt access from the web (actually, it's no different from within the local network).

http://82.32.nnn.nnn/phpmyadmin/
http://82.32.nnn.nnn/example.dev/

Does anyone know why this is happening and/or what to do? I figure this is an httpd.conf issue but it might be best to assume that I'm clueless.

Right now I can see what I don't want to see, but I can't see what I do want to see:) I really need two doses of help if possible, how to show a drupal site and how to hide other stuff, like phpmyadmin.

Edit: http://drupal.org/node/789006. Duh.

TIA,

Jeb.
