Greetings distribution maintainers who want to package your distros on drupal.org...
I've been hard at work lifting nearly all the restrictions on drupal.org that might have prevented you from hosting your distributions there in the past. See http://drupal.org/community-initiatives/drupalorg/distribution-packaging for details.
There's one very large problem that remains: how to define "special" things (like patches) for Drupal core itself. I don't want to repeat myself, and the full details are all posted in an issue on drupal.org. There are two roughly equivalent proposals for how to fix it. I'm just awaiting feedback from more distro maintainers before I decide which way to proceed. Please read the issue and reply there so I don't just unilaterally decide something you're going to end up hating down the road:
#1455614: Packaging script doesn't allow distributions to patch core or specify a git revision
To keep all the discussion in one place, I'm closing comments on this thread.
Thanks!
