In addition to this group's meetings and happy hour events, what are the best sources of leads for Drupal jobs in the Twin Cities? (I will be attending this group's events regularly.)
Where would you recruit Drupal developers? I have started doing Drupal development on my own, and I'm interested in working as a Drupal developer.
Some sources of leads that I know NOT to rely on are:
1. Monster, CareerBuilder, Dice: If a company relies on Monster, CareerBuilder, or Dice, I consider this a red flag. Since good Drupal developers with lots of experience never have to look for a job (because the jobs look for them), they never see these job postings. A company that relies on these dopey job boards for recruiting ends up attracting the low quality candidates, is a miserable place to work, and does poorly in the market.
2. Job fairs: See above. The red flag is amplified by the fact that the good Drupal developers with lots of experience aren't about to take time off of work to attend a job fair. (At least browsing dopey job boards is much more convenient.)
3. Job transition groups: I find these groups vacuous and misguided. There is an unwritten taboo against trying to improve one's skills or accomplish anything. In other words, these groups implicitly endorse relying on BS and spin to keep one's career afloat. If you don't believe me, go to http://jobtransition.net/the-six-steps/ . The 6 steps include soul-searching exercises and interest surveys to decide on a career path but NOTHING about learning to do the work properly. Is proficiency supposed to trickle down from the sky? Is the Proficiency Fairy supposed to show up? Would the Flat Earth Society have a higher level of discourse?
