HL7, Bridges, and Epic connectivity

Hi all,
just getting in under the hood with Epic.com's product and trying to envision getting patient data into Drupal for use in Views. The premise is simple Epic's reporting appears lackluster compared to views. Am thinking perhaps Feeds X-Path Parser + Feeds Tamper should be able to do this, however am also wondering whether it'll be simpler to use something like OpenMRS or GNU Health etc.. as a mediator and then use http://drupal.org/project/data to map the tables and generate reports that way = I lack knowledge of Epic and health care protocols in general and am hoping some folks around here may be able to help steer my learning.
