This course is suitable for experienced developers who are interested in Drupal. We will cover the fundamentals of site building, module development and theming by building a site during the class. You will be introduced to Drupal’s hook system and learn how to participate in and contribute to the Drupal community.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify typical skills needed for and tools used in Drupal development
- Explain the Drupal page model and articulate what an example page in a Drupal site constitutes
- Articulate the benefits of a ‘configuration before coding’ approach to development
- Understand how to pick the right modules as well as where and when to employ custom code in module or theme development
- Understand Drupal’s menu, form, and hook systems, as well as the database layer
- Be able to navigate the Drupal community and find help, collaborators and opportunities

Requirements: Development experience. Knowledge of PHP is an asset. We recommend the Drupal in a Day course as an intro if you're not familiar with Drupal.
