Since we have just about completed the release v3 I thought that it would be good to let everyone know where E-Commerce is going to be going in the next 6 to 12 months.

As I write this we are about to release beta4 of v3. This will be the last beta, and then next weekend I will be putting out the first release candidate. Then in the follow week(s) I hope to finalise v3.0 so the we can all use it. This is a really cool release since that it runs on both Drupal 4.7 and Drupal 5.

After this has happened we will then start working on v4, which will be a combination of v3 and all the work that was not able to be included into v3 which already exists in HEAD, and some clean ups to take advantage of the new Drupal 5 api's.

This will include things like the refactoring of store_transactions_save() and much better hooks for when transactions status's change. Also from this I am hoping that we will be able to also do the ec_auditapi() which will allow E-Commerce to keep complete audit trails of all the changes to transactions.

This will be a Drupal 5 release and once the final stable release has been created it will be ported to HEAD/Drupal 6 and maintained so that we can release a Drupal 6 version when it is released.

Once we have released v4, I am going to clean out all the modules from HEAD, so all the unmaintained modules will be removed, and we will start developing v5 which will only work on the HEAD version of Drupal.

Also I would like to thank DWW for all the wonderful improvements to the projects system, and it has meant that we have been able to make the very best release of E-Commerce, and I think things are only going to get better.

Gordon.
