I've been working with my university to evaluate new email/calendaring applications. One highly requested ability is for student/faculty schedules to automatically be updated in their calendar each semester. With iCal exports of student/teacher schedules, this could work with Outlook/Exchange, Google Apps for Education, etc.
If meeting time information could be attached, to say OG, this could easily be accomplished. Pair this with assignment due dates and Gradebook, and students/faculty could really keep track of everything.
Comment~~~Bill Fitzgerald : Views Calendar has a lot to offer here -- as of a couple days ago, it support iCal exports (see http://groups.drupal.org/node/1828#comment-8309 ) -- Adding assignment dates is straightforward using the CCK date field -- if this isn't completely done, this functionality is most of the way there --
While I need to test the iCal support, I have set up sites that generate a course-specific RSS feed for assignments.
The one piece that needs to get added into the Views Calendar mix is repeating events -- to the best of my knowledge, there is no support for repeating events in Views Calendar at this point.
comment~~~harriska2: Does the ical support take in ical data? Also, I didn't think outlook would give a good ical export but export one ical file per event.
