Currently volunteers of all backgrounds and skillsets are working together to build the Brand, Identity, Marketing Materials, and Website for the Norfolk Arts District (more info about the Arts District below). We need volunteer Drupal developers of all skill levels (even complete newbies) to contribute to the development of the Norfolk Arts District website. This volunteer based project is being managed by the folks at Code for America - Hampton Roads - http://codeforhamptonroads.org/
Currently, myself, Jeremy from Artsmith, and the folks from Touch of Technology have shown interest in contributing to the development of the site. The members from Code for America are focusing on Front End Dev and they are interested in learning more about Drupal. Two other Artsmith team members are focusing on web marketing strategy, and a design team of students from ODU is focusing on branding and identity. In total about 15 volunteers are involved!
As for the website, our plan is to build the site with either the Spark or Panopoly distribution. The project will be on a Code for America GitHub repo for anyone to pull down and work on. This will be a great opportunity for newbies to learn more about Drupal, building Content Types and Views, integrating 3rd party applications (maps) and other general best practices. Additionally, it'll be a great opportunity to ensure that the Norfolk Arts District receives a progressive, beautiful and engaging website!
The meeting on the 16th will be a development kick-off meeting. The ODU Design team is about 75% through the design now. Wireframes and Requirements have been developed for the project. On the 16th we'll need to define a game plan for this project.
For those that are interested and have questions, don't hesitate to contact me via email - joshfischer@artsmithmedia.com
If you can't make it in person, but want to be there via Google Hangout, just let me know and we'll make it happen.
Can't make the meeting on the 16th, but your interested in participating? Just let me know and we'll keep you in the loop.
Again, this is completely a volunteer based project. The final product will be a Code For America project and will remain on their GitHub Repo. The Arts District team members will maintain the site and as new features are required volunteers will continue to contribute these features.

More Details about the Norfolk Arts District
Norfolk City recently took steps to establishing an Arts District in Norfolk. This was an effort that was pushed through by Jesse and Hannah from AltDaily... a tireless effort on their part.
The District will be located north of Brambleton in Norfolk near the Opera House and Chrystler Museum. The community is working together to clean up the area, create public artworks and business/restaurants/cafes are slowly moving into the area. This should be a very exciting venue for future events and block parties.
