At Index Data we've been working on MkDru, a Drupal module for Pazpar2, our XML webservice based metasearch engine.
The primary application is searching one or more Z39.50 targets and having a lot of hooks into Drupal to theme it flexibly (facets as blocks for example). But you can search SOLR too, tweak the ranking, and more.
Mentioned it here to get feedback when it was a sandbox more than a year ago but neglected to post on release. We just put out 1.5 and development has largely stabilised. The new version works out of the box with a demo server so it's much easier to dive in without needing to configure a back end.
