Web Accessibility Seminar
May 15th is Global Accessibility Awareness Day and is designed to get people talking, thinking and learning about digital accessibility, and users with different disabilities. In Canada we believe everyone should be able to access and use digital content with any device, anywhere, anytime, no matter their location, language, or abilities.
That is why OPIN Software will be hosting a Web Accessibility Seminar in order to open up this discussion and impart some knowledge. Quality Assurance Manager Ryan Knuth and UX Director Mike Freeman from Industrial Media will be speaking about web accessibility. The presentation will include:
What standards and laws are out there, as well as different types of users and devices (including assistive devices-like screen readers- and mobile).
First steps to making your content accessible and what resources or tools are available.
Examples of common web content where errors are typically found, and offer tips that content editors/web admins/publishers, etc. can use during their day-to-day work.
The difference between technical and functional accessibility. (You can validate your website’s code with a tool against a specific standard like WCAG 2.0, and pass, but that doesn’t mean it’s usable or optimized for someone using a screen reader or other assistive device.)
Mobile optimization and the fast approaching Government of Canada deadline.
Afterwords there will also be a short fifteen minute discussion on Drupal's commitment to being out of the box accessibility standards compliant and some roadblocks moving forward.
Food and beverages will be served as well as a discussion period after the seminar.
Hope to see you there!
