For long Drupal has had a reputation of being more difficult to set up for small CMS websites than other systems, like wordpress. Distributions were introduced as a way to ship more feature-complete editions of Drupal but distros took a very long time to gain any significant share in Drupal's installed base. Today Commerce Powerstart has over 10.000 reported installations and is a great example of a distro that is useful and valuable to people.

I wanted to do the same thing with people who want have a small Drupal CMS site so I built this:

Drupal CMS Powerstart
Custom builds for Drupal CMS Powerstart

It's just an alpha build. I would really like some feedback from people who frequently build small CMS websites with Drupal and I would like to hear what they think and if they have any interesting feature requests.

One problem with Drupal distributions and how they are handled by the drupal.org build scripts is that you can't get a custom build. You get everything and the kitchen sink. To make Drupal CMS Powerstart more useful I plan to build a GUI for custom builds with only the components that you need so that you don't install a bunch of modules that you won't use.
