Atlanta: Drupal Explained Training March 5 & 6, 2015.

Drupal Explained Training is a 2-day class designed to quickly get you up-and-running with Drupal.

Other students said:

“We covered a large range of topics in a short time.”

“It was easy to get the teacher's attention and specialized attention. Good progression.”

Drupal is one of the best and most popular ways to build a website. It is flexible, scalable and is continuously improved by thousands of people around the world.

Drupal powers some of the largest sites on the web and is being widely adopted by organizations from small businesses to the White House and leading U.S. government agencies and companies such as eBay, Sony and the New York Stock Exchange.

What Will I Learn in the Drupal Explained Class?

On Day 1, you'll learn how to build a Drupal website, from content and user organization, to working with modules and themes.

Part 1: Introduction to Drupal: What? Who? When? Why?
This simple overviews lays a foundation in such a way it garners more respect for the ability of the software and lessens any intimidation of it. After all, knowledge is power.

Part 2: Installing Drupal
We start at the beginning so anyone, even if they know nothing on day one can go back to their office and be fully capable of starting and running their own sites.

Part 3: Navigating the Drupal interface
This is like a map of the terrain. In this portion discover the big picture and then be able to refer back to it indefinitely.

Part 4: Understanding Drupal content
There are multiple ways to organize a message. This helps separate and prioritize how that information will be assembled and placed into the site. It’s like the deciding where the rooms of a house go before framing them in and putting up the dry wall.

Part 5: Managing Drupal content using content types
Does this language already start to sound strange? It’s okay. A repetitive compliment OSTraining instructors Rod Martin and Steve Burge get in their feedback is that they help new comers understand terminology that tends to block developers and end users from easily communicating to one other. Getting clear on this structure frees up the process.

Part 6: Adding data fields to Drupal content
Unlike WordPress, which only allows for basic blog posts, Drupal has unlimited flexibility to add fields that fit a myriad of needs. That’s what makes this software so valuable to large corporations around the globe.

Part 7: Choosing and configuring modules
Again, it’s elementary to master this in order to create the site in the best format for the audience it is intended to serve.

Part 8: Choosing and configuring themes
Many people can write content and paste it onto a template. However, there are few who can code the page to make it look attractive. That’s where themes are so valuable. With these inside tips it will even be easy to tweak that theme so it works just right for you.

Part 9: Configuring and working with Drupal user permissions
Once all this work is done, letting the wrong person have access could be disastrous. Acquire the skill of setting limits on who can do what to the site so delegating responsibility is possible and not so risky by the parameters set in their permissions.

All that, really? I’m overwhelmed!

At first glance it seems like a lot. It is. Our students tell us that in the feedback. Then they also say:

“The teacher did a good job going slowly and making sure no one was left behind.
I really liked the way he structured the learning content as well.
It made things easier to follow.”

“Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher.
I got a very solid set of knowledge in a short class.”

What? There’s even more?

Yes. On Day 2, you'll build on your Drupal knowledge and get to grips with how to modify, improve and develop great Drupal websites. The first day fills your tool belt and lays out the work site. The second day you get to go the construction site, err website, and try out all the new tools!

Part 1: An introduction to the Drupal workflow for building complete, advanced sites
This is a signature process no other course offers. It simplifies the way a site is set up into steps that are easy to follow, common sense and completely able to be done again and again.

Part 2: An introduction to Fields and how they add data and functionality to Drupal content
Retaining the field and data structure from day one, this builds on how to customize the information gathered on your site and then push it into a usable format for your needs.

Part 3: Building more advanced Drupal content with Fields, together with additional modules
Ahhh. This is like waving a magic wand. By this point each of these elements is clear in your mind, like the ingredients of a good potion, and you layer or mix the perfect concoction.

Part 4: Introduction to Views module plus how to sort and organize Drupal data
This is where the rubber hits the road. Up to this point, it’s all been behind the scenes work. Now you are almost ready to put the race cars on the line and raise the checkered flag.

Part 5: Building more advanced Drupal layouts with Views, together with additional modules
To a beginner this might seem daunting. However, under the patient and often humorous guidance of Rod or Steve, you really will be able to comprehend the how and why of this.

Part 6: Introduction to the Panels module plus drag-and-drop, code-free design of Drupal pages
What? You coding? AND liking it? Yes! It’s just like building a puzzle in a toddler phone app. You see something you want, point to it, then put it on the page. Voila! It is that simple.
