Contribute

This sprint will focus on contributing, porting or creating Drupal 8 contrib modules though any contributions to the Drupal project are welcomed! Some examples of contributions could be:

• Writing or reviewing patches for core or contributed modules

• Writing docs for core or contributed modules

• Organizing events

• Working on presentations

• Mentoring other developers

• Anything else that helps make Drupal awesome!

Focus

If you don’t have something to work on, some contrib modules that would like your help porting to Drupal 8 are (FYI, joelpittet has commit access to all these repos):

• Menu Attributes (Has tests, needs approach/discussion/work)

• Basic theme (So close, just need some final touches)

• Twig (Yes, it’s a module too)

• Prism Code Filter (Syntax highlighting for Drupal.org! This is D7 but still.)

Followed by general help with bugs/features for D8 to work through and resolve.

System Setup

If you plan on contributing to patches, it is best if you come with your development system prepared already. If not, we can still help with that (though it usually takes 2-3 hours to get everything up to snuff). Alternatively, you can use the SimplyTest.me site to test things out.

To work with Drupal 8 core, please have a look through the instructions here:

Also if you want to contribute patches to Drupal 8, have a review of this Git workflow:

Bring your questions and troubles to the sprint!

Communication

If you have questions when setting up your environment for core contribution, feel free to ask questions in the VanDUG Slack server for additional real time help. If you need an invite to our Slack server, please contact mark@fuseinteractive.ca. You may also want to install Slack/IRC clients on the computer you choose to bring, so we can communicate easily.

Times

We will start off Friday at 4pm (or when you can get off work) and go until the last person is standing. We will startup again on Saturday bright and early at 9:00am and continue until 5pm (or until the coffee and beer run out). A kitchen with sink, fridge, espresso machine, microwave and stovetop are available for use for the day if you decide you bring your own food, or you can eat at the various restaurants in the area of Gastown (or organize delivery). Feel free to bring your own refreshments (coffee, beer, etc).

Feel free to leave comments if you have questions. Or contact Drupal super-star sprint leader, Joël Pittet.
