An extra Show and Tell just before the start of SHA with guest/s from Australia, and you!

Why using Drupal to create a national campaign seemed important

Lyndsey Jackson is visiting from Australia to speak at SHA about a campaign she launched into the Australian Government’s misuse of algorithms. Thousands of Australian’s have been caught up in the scandal that became known as #notmydebt. The campaign created awareness of the issues caused by data misuse, and importantly it helped to highlight the human cost and people’s rights. Many individuals, organisations, and strategies contributed to the campaigns overwhelming success.

A central focal point became the #notmydebt website.Technically, the early decision to use a Drupal distribution, specifically the AU government’s own GovCMS was an important one. Equally strategic was her decision to build the site using only assistance from Drupal developers uncovered through Twitter, and by training non Drupal people in how to build, manage the site and it’s content.

Lyndsey believes this was important not just for the campaign, but as an example of how the Drupal community can use their skill and influence to support non technologists in embracing Drupal and using it on their own projects as a force for good.

This is a Show and Tell and it will be relaxed because Lyndsey wants to know all about the things you do, living in rural Australia she has literally met about eight other Druapllers in real life! Lyndsey promises to try and be funny and keep it short even though you may not understand her accent or her jokes.
