Investis Digital’s first contribution (contrib) day was a great success.  This day has helped us greatly increase our profile in the Drupal community, improve our security for clients, and ultimately was a lot of fun!

We started off the day by getting our local development environments setup using Docksal.  Thanks to our Investis Digital contribution setup the team was able to get setup ready for contribution in record time (this is an issue that comes up on most contribution days). Next, we reviewed the issue queues for modules that we use on client sites for issues that we’ve faced before and have been problematic on our client’s sites.

Now, time for a bit of lunch we stopped by a local restaurant to the office, Hoba, and enjoyed some delicious food and German techno beats as we ate Berlin inspired kebabs and socialised as a team.

Having satisfied our grumbling tummies we learned how contribute with a merge request or patch files and then we got to work!

The key headlines from the day are:

Investis Digital now has 9 issue credits in the last three months (up from 1).  https://www.drupal.org/investis-digital#org-page-issue-credit signifying to prospect candidates and clients that we are supporters of the project

@xaviemirmon now has security coverage status so can release modules for use on client’s site that are covered by Drupal’s security team

@RhiP created an issue and merge request for a core phrasing issue that is actively causing confusion on a client site and started porting the Watchdog JS Errors module to D9/D10.

@whitewebs created his first ever contribution and helped verify and create a fix for the Gin theme that we use on all new native Drupal websites.

@isidro.garcia.garrido and @RowanADev reviewed the issue queue for the Group module used heavily on a client’s site.

@AlanHDev and @T-lo fixes some bugs and coding styles on the Easy Breadcrumbs module used across our sites and reviewed @xaviemirmon’s code and helped him achieve security coverage status.

@rjjakes updated issues queues for his contrib projects

@ksemihin joined us from Ukraine and created two core patches for translation and error reporting issues

@whitewebs and @isidro.garcia.garrido are both confirmed on Drupal.org now so can post comments and create issues now.

@xaviemirmon released version 1.0.0 of Layout Paragraphs Toggle Publish.

There were a few learnings from the day moving forwards.  Firstly, we need to keep to momentum we started and dedicate two hours weekly to continue moving things forwards.  Secondly, we need to keep contribution days in mind when working on client work and help define issues we work on for the next one. Lastly, it would be great to open future events up to the wider Bristol Drupal community.

Because of our contribution day, we’ve improved the security, stability, and user experiences for our clients, had a lot of fun and boosted team morale.

Thanks to @rjjakes and @AlanHDev for hosting and setting up the event!
