Subtheme and Subsite with same calendar

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi,

I'm new to drupal, but enjoying it so far. I"m using the marina theme (version 6x.2), because I don't
have much experience with PHP and it's so easy to use!
But I've hit a snag with finding tutorials to help me with a more
complex issue...
I'm creating a website for a public library and I need
a main site with pirmary links (Reference, Adults, Teens,
Children, Books, etc)
Two of those primary links (Children, Teens) would direct to (based on what I've read) two "subsites" both
with completely different primary links tab menus and slightly
different theme customizations. (the hover color would be green and blue respecitvely)
They also need to acces the same calendar as the main site, and have the same upcoming events block (if possible)
I've gotten kind of confused reading documentation about subthemes and subsites and I'm wondering if anybody
might be able to help and point me in the right direction.
I downloaded the "subsites" module, but then I was reading about how
sub-theming can change the colors so now I'm not sure how to proceede.
The three set-ups are to be on the same server and under the same main domain name.
I have tinkered with the CSS on the main site, but I"m stuck with how to do the other two sites.
Is there a best practices guide or tutorial somewhere that shows
how to create this scenario, I've looked at the drupal.org issues, but
everybody seems to talk about zen and subthemes, but not for a
seperate but integrated subsite....
Any advice that the drupal wisdom could provide or a point in the right direction would be greatly
appreciated!

Thanks so much for your time!
Susan Winkler
