Recurring doesn't use subscriptions?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Although I've set my product to be a recurring product (schedule: 1 month, unlimited), eC doesn't send me to PayPal with a subscription. What am I doing wrong? (dev, 12/11)
