BioInformatics
Our goal, to discuss how Drupal can be used to scientists run their laboratories, to build software for their unique applications dealing with Biological, Genetics and Computational properties, and to help people connect with scientists for better support for the large amounts of genetic data.
This group will also provide a forum for developers to share code, ideas and to work together to address common problems that arise when dealing with bioinformatics, biodiversity, and related data.
The following initial steps to move this forward:
* Create use cases or user scenarios for: Scientists, Members, Prospective Members: if you fit into any of these categories, or know anyone who does, please develop a user story or use case (learn more about user personas.)
* Research existing BioInformatics Institutions and Websites and add them to this wiki page of existing websites
* Research coordinating organizations that support BioInformatics
* Research Government Funding sources
* Establish a Drupal group to gather

Importing taxonomic terms from EOL via Scratchpad

Status of DarwinCore Content Type
Hi All,
Does anyone have any updates on the status of the Darwincore Specimen and Location module. Perhaps it is better to use this code? Last time I tried this module I found it to be slightly broken and now I'm guessing it may not be up to date with the Darwin Core Standard, to boot.
Thanks,
Kyle

By no means extensive list (and reviews hopefully) of modules useful for managing biodiversity data in Drupal. Please add comments in pros and cons, and add more modules/sections.
A 'common data model' for biodiversity data in Drupal?
Drupal's modular framework makes it an ideal candidate for collaborative development. Is there enough interest from developers in biodiversity informatics to build a set of common extensible base content types which comply to the TDWG standards? What level of compatibility can we achieve with EDIT's CDM framework, whilst still benefiting from Drupal contributed modules?
Bibliography requirements and use cases for biodiversity informatics
From protologue citations, to taxon usage citations, to taxon description references, bibliographic data is an essential part of biodiversity data. Currently a number of Drupal applications are using Biblio module (see also Research and Academia Drupal Group) with differing levels of success. I would like to ask what are your experiences managing bibliographic data in Drupal? What use cases, requirements do you have? How could management of bibliographic data be improved?
Multi-site management, shared database, table prefixing and scalability
Okay, so I have a question. Based on your experiences, what are the best approaches for handling multi-site management? Off the top of my head some options are:
Biodiversity informatics in Drupal (project listing)
After attempting to create a biodiversity informatics Drupal group, and being unceremoniously rejected (fair play this bioinformatics group does mention biodiversity in it's mission statement), I am hijacking or contributing (whichever way you would like to look at it), to invite users to join the bioinformatics Drupal group to discuss the development of biodiversity tools in Drupal. I won't go so far as to change the mission statement, but group founders please feel free to embrace us if this takes off.
