Any Drupal Rockstars in the House?

I met Chris Pirillo at Startup Weekend a while back. Pretty cool guy, He's looking for some "above excellent" drupal folks to help out on a VERY interesting project.

The project description should be on his blog shortly, if you can't wait, send him an email chris@pirillo.com

Long Story Short

lockergnome's picture
lockergnome - Tue, 2008-03-25 10:08

After all these years of lurking, I'm finally signing up for an account and posting in my first thread.

"Hello, I'm Chris - and I'm a user."

I'm not going to go into too many details yet, if only because I'd like to hear back from a few more people before I post the first full call-to-action to my blog. I'll also x-post it here, most likely in the Seattle Group (if only because we're neighbors, though I see the impact of this specific effort being global).

I want to build an Install Profile of the next iteration of Lockergnome.com, which means that the community constructs and collection of modules found here or developed specifically for it can be used for anyone, by anyone, anywhere, etc. Instead of having to start assembling community tools from scratch, we can give organizations and groups a starting point.

It's not the feature, it's the implementation.

I have a code sprint planned for this coming weekend, but it's at my home and I don't want to extend invitations too far outside my (this?) trust network. It'll be streamed live, however - at least, the parts that I can stream. I don't want to shut anybody out, so I'm open to other collaborative ideas (if you're interested in what's going on, before or after I post a more complete description and reasonings).

I'm sure you'll have a million questions, and so will I. :)

Co-work

heyrocker - Tue, 2008-03-25 20:53

We have co-works every week, feel free to come by and share your thoughts or chat/meet with people. I'm always up for anything interesting/cool/nerdy. Install profiles / distribution methods are a hot topic these days so there's a lot out there to consider.

Speaking of which, has anyone scheduled co-work this week?

And I'll make a concerted effort to be there, although I have a weekly CNN.com thing at 2:30pm. I'd like to bring up my grander hopes at that point.

Install Profile for General Communities

Sorry I couldn't paste the content in full here - I got an error: "The spam filter that is installed on this site is currenly not available. Per the site's policy, we are unable to accept new submissions until that problem is resolved. Please try resubmitting the form in a couple minutes." IMHO, that's a poorly written error message. It's not indicating who to contact about the error, if the error has already been reported, if the site owner was notified about the error, and most importantly - not giving me any indication that I'll TRULY have better luck after waiting two minutes.

Might as well have read: "Uhhh... something happened."

At least I would have laughed at that. :) Let's see if this one posts or I wind up with a different (or the same?) error.

Time(s) for the Sprint - and Details

lockergnome - Fri, 2008-03-28 02:41

Starting Saturday morning @ 9am, going through to Sunday evening

  • The install profile / project name is now Gnomepal.
  • Community, Relevance, Discovery seem to help define the ethos.
  • Beverages will be furnished, although after I know what people want / need.
  • I have two small dogs who are people friendly (lhasa apso / shi-zu / poodle mixes).
  • Project leader, Adam Kalsey, will be on hand through most of the weekend - remotely, via IRC / Skype / etc.
  • I'm working on setting up a mailing list in mailman for general discussion.

If interested, please email me: chris@pirillo.com (as this IS my home). I'm on freenode in the #drupal-gnomepal channel, as might be others. I will need to start investigating a public place for the next sprint on the project.
