Event type:
Drupalcamp or Regional Summit

Florida DrupalCamp 2011 will take place on Saturday, February 12, 2011 and Sunday, February 13, 2011 on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Registration for the camp is now open at FLDrupalcamp.org!

Many thanks to the Rollins Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership Center and the Central Florida Computer Society for their generous in-kind support of the camp.

Saturday will feature 4 tracks of sessions about Drupal and associated topics. Sunday will be Coding for a Cause where we will be building a new web site for the Central Florida Computer Society. There will be a $10 per-person registration fee for the event. Winter Park is a suburb of Orlando, located approximately 7 miles northeast of downtown Orlando. Rollins College is located in downtown Winter Park, a beautiful area with plenty of restaurants and shopping. There are several hotels close to the venue, we'll (hopefully) be announcing special DrupalCamp rates soon.

The facilities at Rollins are outstanding. We will have access to two auditoriums (one seats about 300 people, the other seats about 90), two IT classrooms (each seating between 30-40), a breakout room and a student lounge.

We are in the planning stages for the event and are still actively looking for volunteers. The following committees have been formed:

  • IT (Wifi access) - Andrew Riley will be working with the IT staff at Rollins to ensure our needs are met.
  • Food - John Learned will be working with the Rollins dining service for some of our food and drink needs. If you're interested in helping John, please leave a comment below.
  • T-shirts - Erik Baldwin will be designing a new logo and taking care of the t-shirts.
  • Sponsors - Mike Anello (me!) will be raising money for the event. If you're interested in sponsoring the event, please let me know via my DrupalEasy contact form.
  • Rentals - if we determine that we'll need to rent any equipment (tables, chairs, etc...), we'll need someone to take this task on.
  • Signage - Rollins will be providing some signage, if we determine that we need more, we'll need someone to take this task on.
  • Session program - we are looking for someone to lead this very important task. We have several volunteers who are willing to help (Gaelan Adams, Don VanDemark), but we need someone who is willing to put the necessary time to reach out to qualified speakers and put together a really great program.
  • Keynote speaker - Mike Anello will be in charge of finding a keynote speaker worthy of this monumental event.
  • Web site - Erik Baldwin, John Learned, Gaelan Adams, and John Studdard will be in charge of this task. They will be looking at the DrupalCamp Web Site Distribution as a starting point.
  • Registration - we are looking for someone to take the lead on this task.
  • Marketing - Ryan Price will be leading this effort.
  • Giveaways - Mike Anello and ??? will be leading this task to provide giveaways during the camp, including a bag full of stuff to each attendee as well as raffle items.
  • Travel and transportation - we are looking for a volunteer to finalize details with local hotels as well as to help facilitate the organization of carpools from all areas of Florida.

Interested in getting involved? Please leave a comment below indicating how you'd like to help out!

Thanks,
-mike

I would like to help out this year.

I will take the lead for session programs. Although, I don't have much experience as far as identifying speakers. I would say once the site is up, we start polling who might be a good speaker.

Conference Organizing Distribution for DrupalCamps

Yo, found out last night from Mark Laymon that there is a Drupal Distro for Drupal Camps and Meetups. Has anyone heard of or worked with it?

Could be an easy jump-start for the Florida DrupalCamp website instead of developing from scratch.

Didn't see your post when I came here to post. Must be GDO's caching servers are a little slow :-)

Yes, already installed COD as our base. Atlanta used it for their camp and Chicago is starting to use it for the next DrupalCon. Gaelan has been very involved with the COD team, learning its ins and outs. DrupalEasy also just recorded their latest podcast with them after our last meet-up. Check it out:

What is required to lead the Registration task? I think I could take that on.

help is on the way

Marguerite,

Nadia from Gainesville is helping us out with the registration task as well - I'm sure she'd welcome the help.

Nadia - can you contact Marguerite (http://groups.drupal.org/user/426979/contact) to get things rolling?

Thanks,

Session Filler

dhcp's picture

Not sure if you are still looking for sessions, but my company just had their site redesigned into a Drupal site (just launched in January). I could talk about it as a "case study" session if you would like. The coder would not be present, but I could speak as a technical admin for the site. Just let me know, as I will be attending either way.

Chris, We would be happy to

Chris,

We would be happy to accommodate your case study. Don and myself are in charge of sessions.

We are actually putting together a panel of the "decision maker" types who have recently rolled out a Drupal site as our opening keynote session - I realize you work for the company, but who was the "client" in this case? A marketing director, or an executive perhaps?

Check out the description on the site:

I was the client

Actually, I am the client and administrator of the new website. While I am not the VP of this division, I directly influenced our decision to use Drupal.

If you would like me to participate in the panel and/or have some sort of case study session...just let me know in the next couple of days so that I can prepare.

Did anyone contact Rollins' radio station? They'll probably give free airplay, since it is campus related, to help promote the event.
