Current presentations are as follows:
- Online video publishing using a CDN and remote FFMpeg transcoding
- Guild of Natural Science Illustrators challenges and solutions for converting non-machine readable member records to user editable member records
- Presented by Ron Williams of Lithic Media
- Creating usable data from static files for use with Drupal
- Presented by Ken Whitesell
The meetup starts around 7PM and presentations will begin at 7:30.
Location Details:
MD Meetup at PMG
6940 Columbia Gateway Drive (right off of 95 on 175 West)
Suite 220
Columbia, MD 21046

A couple of quick tips when coming to PMG for the meetup:
- There is a big sign that marks the building for PMG. It reads "The Woodlands Two."
- The last door on the right will be open.
- We are on the second floor. The best way to get up to the second floor is through the stairs on the right as you walk in. If you can not use
the stairs please call the office (410 290 0667) and someone will come down with a keycard for the elevator. - Once you get upstairs, PMG will be the office right past the elevators.
- There will be signs pointing the way!
We have space for 1-2 additional presentations. If you're interested in presenting, please contact Ron (ron@lithicmedia.com or 410-726-7869) to reserve time.

FFMpeg
Oh, now this is juicy! I look forward to hearing about what you have to say, and can certainly contribute a lot in regards to video transcoding. I've been working with ffmpeg and mencoder for about 5 years now. :)
Ah, good. I will be sure to
Ah, good. I will be sure to pick your brain regarding making ffmpeg run a bit better. I only have a basic install running now, but I am sure there are more efficient ways to configure it.

Offer to fill 15 minutes. <g>
I've got more stuff that I can talk about my current project. If you'd like me to fill a 15 minute slot I can easily do so.
1) I was having problems with importing data into nodes - I came up with a solution to that that worked reasonably well.
2) Not strictly speaking a Drupal-specific issue, but I managed to extract usable data from the 2000+ file site that I'm working on, and can talk about what I learned during that process.
Dinner before meeting
If anyone cares to join me for a "pre-meeting meeting", I'll be eating dinner at Pei Wei that afternoon. I generally get there around 5:15.
All the topics mentioned
All the topics mentioned sound great. Even though the extracting data doesn't have directly to do with Drupal, I can't wait to hear about that one since IMO Drupal really shines when fed a ton of data.

Ahhh, options. That's
Ahhh, options. That's certainly the name-of-the-game with those tools. I mostly lean toward using ffmpeg, but mplayer/mencoder have some very versatile uses... sometimes one works better than the other. Most of the power comes from configuring the compile options properly. You can also compile several versions, of course, if you are comfortable with that. Mind you, this is mostly targeted to the linux builds, but you can do the same in any environment if you are familiar with those methods (i.e. MinGW builds for win32).
Aside from decent config options, knowing how to use the tool is crucial. Targeted audience is what I always say when it comes to compression. Sometimes one version isn't enough (see low/med/high or 360/480/720). But you can also do quick things like strip audio/video w/o recompressing (so akin to the speed of a file copy) or trim out small sections of a video (I want 30 seconds, 2 minutes into a 7 minute video, again, very quick w/o recompression).
But I digress. I should be able to answer any questions you have on Wednesday... If you have anything that you need answered about these apps generally though, please contact me anytime. :)
Hello Ron & all, I wanted to
Hello Ron & all,
I wanted to tell you folks in Maryland that we're giving away a ticket for the upcoming training events in DC in November from 15-19th..
Here's the sign up to enter: http://gs-survey.com/s.asp?s=13183
You can also opt-in to be notified when we have other training events.
In this training you can learn custom theme or module development. This is a really clear step-by-step training, delivered by our partners, Chapter Three. You can read more about this on the registration page.
Looking forward to it
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the area, so I was looking for a meetup like this.
Looking forward to the meetup tonight.
Thanks,
Sulav
Good seeing everyone again!
That was a fun meeting! Please let me know if anyone needs any usage advice for ffmpeg or mencoder. :)
Follow up presentations
If you enjoyed the "Online video publishing using a CDN and remote FFMpeg transcoding" presentation I gave last night, be sure to come out next month where I will be discussing in depth Drupal performance options and implementation. I will also be giving a similar Drupal performance presentation on December 1 at University of Maryland College Park. The presentation at UMD will be geared toward using Drupal on high traffic websites while the presentation at the next meetup will be more generalized.
FYI, due to the holiday next month we will most likely move the date. I will post the information 1-2 weeks before the actual event date.

Hi Ron, Seems like I missed
Hi Ron,
Seems like I missed the really interesting topic this week but I am planning to attend the next meetup.
