Hello Drupal community,

Who am I?
I'm a 24 year old Belgian student communication multimedia design. I'm a webdesigner, with more graphical skills than technical.
This (scholar) year I combine a 4/5 job with my graduation project.

Graduation project + investigation
I focus my investigation on the integration of (popular) social networking sites in Drupal. How can content from social networking site X or Y end up in a Drupal website? Can this be content related to the user/profile of different information like feeds etc. What is possible today, let's say I focus on Drupal 5 contributed modules?

After a name search on drupal.org with sites from Wikipedia + some more like digg, del.icio.us, ... a came up with this list of modules:

  • Single module - social networking site

(searched in drupal with list from wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites)

Advogato 4.7 dev user
Flickr 5 ok site
Flickr cck 4.7 dev site
Flickr gallery 5 ok user
Flickr Module 4.7 dev site
Flickr rippr 5 dev user
Flickr upload 5 dev user
Flickrhood
Jaiku 5+6 ok user
Jaiku api 5 dev user
MyBlogLog 4.7 dev site
Pownce 5+6 ok user (posting on pownce from drupal)
Twitter 5 dev user (posting on twitter from drupal and viceversa)
Facebook 5 dev ?
Facebook Aut 5 ok user (not much about integration, just a user login)
Facebook status 5 ok user (only for single-user personal sites)

(more sites added that were missing om wikipedia)

DiggThis 4,5,6 ok site
Delicious 5 ok user (feed from delicious)

  • General module - social networking site

Embedded media Field 5 ok user
includes image field: Flickr, Imageshack, Picassa and Photobucket images
includes video field: YouTube, Google, Revver, MySpace, MetaCafe, JumpCut, BrightCove, SevenLoad, iFilm, Blip.TV, Daily Motion, and Live Video video formats
Activity stream 5 ok ?
Del.icio.us and Ma.gnolia, pictures on Flickr, music on Last.fm, or posts on your blog, anything you create can be gathered into one easy to read stream

If I'm correct: this list is what I found on drupal.org. I invite everybody to add more sites to the list if there are?

Fast conclusion: important : missing at first view

  • (real) user Facebook integration
  • Myspace integration
  • LinkedIn integration

Project: new contribution: social life module?
As I state, Drupal has a long way to go to let more social networking sites integrate better in drupal sites. For instance: at this moment there's no LinkedIn or Myspace integration. I want to build a new drupal module in partnership with Solide, the company I'm working for now. They want to participate, and share the feeling of giving something back to the community.

Would it be nice to build a module that lets content form a lot popular social networking sites integrate into drupal websites - linked to users and their profiles/content?

Where can you help?
I can use everybody who wants to help me in this process.

From forming a good current listing of modules that show integration of social networking sites in Drupal -
To helping me overview my investigation in a wider space of time, or level.
What should I do with OpenSocial?
Tips, hints? Anything is welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Greetings,

Jeroen

SOC

Not an answer to your question, but I noticed that you are a student with a project and thought I'd mention SOC in case you weren't aware of it. Have a look at http://code.google.com/soc/2008 and http://groups.drupal.org/soc-2008 . You need to be quick, though, because the deadline is tomorrow.
