Drupal loves OpenSocial?

Hello there,

I'm a student Communication Multimedia Design - currently doing a graduation investigation and project about the "Integration of social networking sites in Drupal".

Investigation

My investigation brings me first to a technical question: which current (Drupal 5) modules give an answer to this question?

I did an investigation and found 19 contributed modules that make integration possible for content coming from a typical social networking site into Drupal.

  • Activity Stream
  • Advogato
  • Delicious
  • Digg this
  • Embedded Media Field
  • Flickr
  • Flickr cck
  • Flickr Gallery
  • Flickr Module
  • Flickr Rippr
  • Flickr Upload
  • Jaiku
  • Jaiku API
  • MyBlogLog
  • Pownce
  • Twitter
  • Facebook - Auth
  • Facebook Status
  • Feed API
  • Drupal core: Aggregator

(if you want to suggest an other module, please be my guest)

These 19 modules cover the integration of content for already many social networking sites. But, are we there yet? There are so many "social networking sites" these days... A standard for all these applications is what all developers are propably dreaming about.

Last winter Google came with an answer, launching OpenSocial.

Project: OpenSocial module

Many developers seem to love the OpenSocial API. Theres' a big chance OpenSocial will become a standard for social apps, or at least become a very important player. It's propably too early to predict after 5 months what will happen, but the world seems to adopt OpenSocial pretty easy. At this moment OpenSocial has an incredible list of companies who adopted the API. To give you a few: MySpace, ILike, Orkut, Hi5, Hyves, Flixter, LinkedIn, Ning, and many many more...

See: http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/partners.html

My question to all of you developers/Drupal-users:

Wouldn't it be nice if Drupal would have an OpenSocial module, integrating content from several websites that work with the OpenSocial API? This can be, for example content about the user, the user's network (friends, groups) or activities.

Thanks,
