DrupalCon
FP7 is the EU instrument for funding research, see the introduction on wikipedia or go to the primary site You will notice the Drupal development can fit many calls in general but non in particular. The first goal is to figure out if enough people in the community are interested in EU funded Drupal research. I've made a list with some initiatives that looked relevant, but please be free to give your own opinion or to show your interest.
As the whole idea came with the semantic web interest after last Drupalcon, the main search was to support workshops and meetings for it.
This action seeks to open and foster dynamic pathways between public research organizations and private commercial enterprises, in particular SMEs. It can be used for: Networking activities, organisation of workshops and conferences to facilitate sharing of knowledge and culture between the participants.
Related to the many training initiatives in the Drupal community, this call may be relevant. This action aims to improve early-stage researchers' career prospects in both the public and private sectors, thereby making research careers more attractive to young people. This will be achieved through a transnational networking mechanism, aimed at structuring the existing high-quality initial research training capacity. Next to the networking activities, organization of workshops and conferences, it aims also at recruitment of researchers.
This initiative not part of "people" but of "capacities".It aims to help to create new research infrastructures of pan-European interest in all fields of science and technology. ICT-based e-Infrastructures - supporting a number of interrelated topics designed to foster the emergence of a new research environment in which ‘virtual communities’ share and exploit the collective power of European scientific and engineering facilities. Although when you read about e-Infrastructures It seems not to fit. I'm still investigating if the Drupal way may fit.
Comments
My own interest
It would be great if people make their interest and association visible. I'm interested mostly in web based services for both research perspective as teaching. This is related to my work in the IT-management department MOSI at "Vrije Universiteit Brussel". On a longer term research perspective I'm looking at managing radical innovation (and the cybernetics of novelty).
code sprints
I think the most value for the Drupal community of any type of grants lies in the organisation of hybrid workshop/code-sprint series. Drupal is to much a moving target to be able to work out specific development plans and be able to stick to them.
There is lots of opportunity in bringing together the core team on a specific subject (e.g. semantic web) and have them present their work in a 1-2 day workshop and spice it all up with a decent dose of code-sprint. If we would be able to get the funds to pay the lead developers to attend these events (e.g. present the workshops), this could make it easier to synchronise the resources.
I imagine that this could fit into the industry-academy partnerships and probably Initial training network.

Hi! I'm looking for using
Hi!
I'm looking for using drupal as a nice platform for research units. But it lacks research projects modules which should be done according with fp7 rules as with pmi standards.
The current drupal project module only fits for it departments or developers. A specific proposal can be focused on research management...
You can include something
You can include something very radical as "social managing of research projects", SMRP concept. Some innovation disclosure is part of the thing. The respect for the authorship of disclosures is quite relevant to build up some network trust.
I saw your site. Nice article on memetics. I've a student that is working on that field related with narratives.
Participation in development
Hi!
At University of Szeged, Hungary we have drupal developers. If there will be EU funded Drupal project, we would be happy to participate as developer.
Developing Virtual Research Environment with Drupal
At the University of York we have a project, funded by the EPSRC (research council), to facilitate interdisciplinary research by developing a virtual research environment that helps to bring together researchers at the University that have common interests or complementary expertise but did not know so in the past. We are building this with Drupal. Partnering with other institutions that use Drupal for research in an EU framework would be interesting.
I'm from Portugal and I work
I'm from Portugal and I work on a research unit related to psychology and health. And I'm also looking for that partnership.
That could be considered an infrastructure project/call?
Partnership, the first concern.
It's great to see the reactions. I guess a general line in all the posts is: partnering with other institutes using Drupal for research. I'll keep pursuing this direction. I've mention in previous post that this direction fits most calls in general but non in particular. It may need some creativity to fit it in FP7, it will take time.
It would also be more convincing if we have a large group of labs and SME who are involved. I'll try to get more people aware of the initiative. We may try to make a list of people who are using Drupal in EU for research or business to create visibility. It will make the need more concrete.
p.s. Don't forget to subscribe to the event. It is to see if enough people are interested to create a BoF on next Drupalcon.
submitted a BoF
I've just requested to organize a BoF on next Drupalcon.
Lets hope for the best.
Sorry, I come late to this
Sorry, I come late to this discussion but I'll definitely be at the BoF (if I make it to Szeged).

Kendra Foundation receives
Kendra Foundation receives FP7 funding as part of the P2P-Next project. So, we have a little experience. I hope to be on this BoF.
